It’s not bad enough that Marco is the earliest 13th named storm in the Atlantic Basic since records have been kept, but now we have a chance for one of the rarer weather events in hurricane tracking, as reported by CNN:
Forecasters say it’s hard to anticipate what the impact will be of having two systems in the Gulf of Mexico, but an unusual weather phenomenon known as the “Fujiwhara effect” could take place if the two systems are within roughly 900 miles of each other.
The Fujiwhara effect happens when two tropical systems come close together to influence each other’s movements and engage in dance around their common center, according to the National Weather Service.
Nothing is certain, but one of the outcomes could be that the two systems will then form a single massive storm, spin together as one, and then continue on their own paths, or “if one hurricane is a lot stronger than the other, the smaller one will orbit it and eventually come crashing into its vortex to be absorbed,” the NWS said.
Laura is trailing Marco, but they are angling towards each other. The Gulf of Mexico is currently warmer than bath water and we have been having thunderstorms almost every day. There is a lot of hot moist air to power tropical storms.

If my Industrial Design days wasn’t well over, I’d design you an exoskeleton (I actually did some work on that for a Uni Robotics Lab, before their funding was suddenly pulled. I never did find out why. they also worked on vision & hearing, was quite advanced for the time.)

Victoria had a huge freak storm that did a lot of damage, 3 people have been confirmed dead so far. But also, the Melbourne water supply was contaminated & people warned not to drink tap water. We got the edge of it here and our water is OK.

Sounds like Laura hitting Louisiana – at least 16 dead and no processed water or electricity for a large section of the state. Of course the Federal response under Trump is just as bad as it was for Maria in Puerto Rico and Michael in Mexico Beach. They had days to stage drinking water and meals in the area to show up as soon as the storm passed but it wasn’t done. No water to drink, wash your hands, much less bathe.

The big mistake with the pyramids is the belief they were built by slaves. Research shows they were more of a religious labor tax. The building took place generally during the spring floods when the mass of population had nothing else to do and you could float stones from the quarries.
I don’t know, but I believe that these ancient civilizations were hell of a lot more creative than people assume. They built tools and instruments that we don’t understand and too many resort to Clarke’s Third Law too readily.
If we could be certain of the actual terrain at the building sites when construction took place, many problems might be explained. Between man and natural events/catastrophes the topography keeps changing.

I’m pretty sure I was born a skeptic. It was awoken by my Catholic *education* at a very early age (mostly because of the many day’s I spent in Libraries trying to find the answers they refused to give me). It’s possibly one reason why the Military were so keen on my two friends and I taking a role in Mil/Int. My friends and I (who were also a product of the same upbringing as I was) were *interviewed* over several days for many hours before they made their recommendation.

My Dad was like your Grandpa – there’s a book that covers the problem because very few problems are so unique that no one else has ever encountered them. I was 15 when my Dad handed me a book, tool chest, a box of parts and told me to replace the clutch in the family car. He was a firm believer in you learn by doing. In addition to replacing the clutch he discovered that I remembered a number of words he used when he worked on cars. 😉
The math is solid in these ancient civilizations. If you can do the math, you can figure out how to build it. Locally we have a burial mound that is characteristic of the Mississipian native American tribes. They couldn’t build pyramids because there are no natural rock formations. Everyone seems to want to build artificial mountains to impress their enemies and their people. The rulers and priests seem drawn to that concept. All they really need are tools capable of shaping rock. The type of rock determines the type of tool. Generally bronze would be enough to carve most rock, and these cultures were all capable of metal working based on the artifacts that we have found.
There is growing evidence that the Polynesians were visiting South America and that Native Americans immigrated from Asia, so there was global trade for a very long time. Humans were sailing between the continents along the coasts for millennia to hunt, fish, and trade.
I personally like and use AMD processors, but I don’t understand the thinking on that Intel product announcement. Now I’ll have to look at the 4800U, because Intel wants too much for their chips and can’t seem to get them on the shelves. I just can’t forgive Intel for the 8088 or the 80286 or any of their other disabled processors.

Sadly, when I built this system, I was forced to use Intel. AMD almost killed themselves with the horrible FX “Bulldozer” series! But my next one will definitely be AMD. They have redeemed themselves, it took a few years.

The problem with the work performed on the much of the stone used in the pyramid’s construction, is that most of them have a mohs hardness of between 7-8 (such as the various granite’s). So, to drill, cut or polish them, requires tools of at least 8.5 mohs. But anything below 10; diamond, carbonado or moissanite (rare & discovered in 1893); would wear out faster and have to be replaced more often, they would also work slower. I am curious. There have definitely been some very smart people around thousands of years ago. 😉
I came across this “Windows 10 Ameliorated” (interesting name)! I’m going to give it a try to see if it solves a problem I have, especially with several newer games that use the Unreal Engine 2019 or 2020, that can’t be fixed on the Enterprise version of W10! They require the “Media Feature Pack” included on Home & Pro versions, but removed from the “N” versions of these. The pack can be d/l from M$, but cannot be installed on Enterprise editions! Damn! I did buy a W10 Pro license (for US$14 I think it was from a 3rd party reseller when a 75% coupon was made available from one of the YT tech channels I watch earlier this year). I figured for that price, it was worth having one “just in case”! looks like it might be! I think I’ll add a third boot partition for the Pro W10 just for games. I used the Enterprise LTSC for a lot of other things. The other is for Linux.

You have to use what’s available that suits your purpose and won’t require a lot of messing around. The problem with the leading edge is you keep getting cut at the worst possible time. No one is good all the time. Maybe Intel will actually put out a great processor in the near term, but that hasn’t been their history lately.
Yes, Ameliorated sounds good, but my Win 10 Pro was an upgrade and I’m not sure what they did about the licensing from my Win 7 Pro. It should be good, but you never know with M$.
It took decades to build Gothic Cathedrals in the Middle Ages, so speed was probably not a concern. Unfortunately Egyptian masons weren’t important enough to have their lives chronicled or their tools preserved. We need a time machine 😉

Many people misunderstand what the Crusades & the Inquisition were all about. Their priority was the removal or destruction of anything that could cause any problems with the Church of Rome’s version of History. As an example, in 1415 the Antipope Benedict XIII ordered all copies of two Jewish books, said to contain the *true* name of Jusus and reported on his life as a Rabbi, destroyed. The Mar Yesu and the book of Elxai. Pope Alexander VI then ordered Tomas de Torquemada to destroy all original copies of the Talmud. Approximately 6,000 copies were seized and destroyed in Salamanca alone. The Crusaders destroyed all Jewish & Islamic texts they found, and any *Christian* texts that didn’t agree with the Church doctrine. Every such book in Prague, as one example, were confiscated and either destroyed or locked up in the Church’s catacombs. They did also of course arrest, torture and murder various people for their own reasons & called them heretics, just to keep up appearances & keep the various populations from getting too nosy. They also spent Decades confiscating any artifacts, art and other items that held any truth they did not want people to know. Many were simply destroyed. The Church were actually Gangsters with power. After all, Pope Alexander VI was the infamous Rodrego Borgia. 🤷♂️ Most of the others were no better, and any pope that even talked about changing things, was either deposed or vanished.

The last XB-70 is at the Air Force’s National Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio. An uncle was stationed there in Civil Service, and family still live in the area.
It was the test bed that produced data for the A-12, SR-71, X-15. It died with the birth of surface-to-air missiles and costs overruns. It had a cobra vibe and the canard shows up in a number of current aircraft. It would have scared the borscht out of the Soviet air defense system everywhere except for the Moscow Military District.

Updates are usually a PITA. Even if you read the release notes and think you know what will change or happen. there’s almost always a surprise. 🤷♂️😖 For me lately, it’s the graphics drivers! They fix one really annoying issue, and often add another. though not always as bad as the one that was fixed. Still… Annoying!

I needed a new “easy lazy fun” game. My usual ones I’ve played to death & they are boring. I decided on a couple of very highly rated kitty games I’d not heard of (from an Independent developer) that were on sale for both. Always a nice bonus! Played the first for a few hours! It was fun and I didn’t have to think too much!
I also got the latest AAA game that DOES require thought, skill & patience! It’s new on PC, was on Playstation for a few years, from Sony. It has some issues, but they are releasing updates regularly. *sigh* Yeah… Sucker for punishment, me! It crashed about a half an hour into it the game the first time I played, I rebooted and disabled everything in the background it didn’t need and reduced some gfx settings, worked for a couple hours until I decided to play with the kitties again! 😆

A known problem with collaborative software projects is the tendency of people involved to “fix” things that aren’t broken because they don’t like the way they work. Combined with unintended consequences and uncommented source code these are often the major reason for software updates – fixing the fixes. There isn’t enough testing to discover all of the newly created problems. OTOH, it sort of works and it’s free.
The real benefit of gaming is resetting your brain so you can solve problems that have been bugging you. A round of mahjong and I can get back to coding and seeing the obvious error in the source – the elusive missing semicolon or uninitualize variable.

I started playing Cat’s Quest II on Sunday. I didn’t realize it has two characters you play simultaneously. One is a dog. My kitty is a warrior type (in-your-face hack-n-slash) and the doggie is a Wizard type. Various ranged spells and effects, and is able to heal the kitty which he usually needs! it’s a nice idea. The dialog, from all the characters in the game, is mostly corny, but sometimes amusing. The Armor Smith is a cat named “Kit Cat” and the Weapon Smith is a dog named… “Hot Doggo! *sigh* You get the idea! 🙄
I see people STILL trying to compare COVID-19 with the Flu! They are in some ways similar, but not at all the same! Especially comments like “How come if they can create a new Flu vaccine every year, they can’t make one for COVID?” Ignorance truly is bliss. The first Flu vaccine after the 1918-19 pandemic that killed millions. It took 20 years to create a mostly effective Vaccine, but it was only effective against the Influenza A strain, not the B & C strains. It also had side effects, which is when the blissfully ignorant began the whole “Vaccines are evil and will kill you!” crap.

The founders of ARM are calling for the UK government to do something about the Nvidia deal (according to the BBC). They object because Nvidia is a current ARM customer and other customers may look for other solutions if they don’t believe they’ll be treated fairly by Nvidia. With the on going disaster of BREXIT and COVID, it is doubtful that Boris will take any action. Jeff Bezos could decide to buy ARM on a whim and he can pay cash, just like he bought the Washington Post.
I had the flu back in February 2018 which shifted into bronchitis and it lasted three weeks. If this is 5 times more likely to be fatal than the flu the body count will be a significant chunk of a million bodies. The 1918 Influenza was “just the flu” and the death toll was higher than World War I. I had the shot but it wasn’t very effective for my age group.
I wrote a game for a class in university and received highest marks but the instructor stood behind me to ensure I removed all traces of the game from the system. He felt that some of the characters resembled members of the faculty and administration in unflattering ways. What’s wrong with low humor in video games? 😈

I’m still playing Diablo III RoS (Reaper of Souls – a major expansion that came out not long after D3). Just started a new character for the current Season 21. I think I’ve put in around 3,000 hours into D3 since 2014! I have 13 fully leveled up characters (generally 2 for each class type)! This one is a Demon Hunter I called Huntress. She’s doing very well and is a serious badass! I only started this season a few weeks ago & don’t play every day. I like Diablo III because of the insane number of equipment/gear items that can be combined, and always farming for those extra special pieces (called Ancient Legendary, which have higher spec’s. I have 2 already.) It’s probably the most complex game I play, though Destiny 2 comes close. If you’re curious:

Huntress is wearing 4 different “Sets”. they gave me special bonuses when I have a certain number of pieces (2 or 4 for example) and the best bonus when a complete set. I have a special buff that allows me to reduce the number of items required by 1 (though a minimum of 2 is needed).

I’m going to be cleaning up starting tomorrow. My car looks like I drove through a hedge – it’s covered with twigs and leaves. I also have some branches I need to get off the roof. About 50cm of rain and gusts of 100 kph make a mess of things.
True. The worst example currently is Trump. He screws up constantly, yet apparently believes he truly has done something fantastic! He certainly does not believe in evidence or facts.

This is a very nice little box! And from an Engineering position, very well executed! It’s been awhile… And it’s a very good price too, especially now. You don’t need the *high end* spec. The other options are cheaper. You could play the kitty games ( well, kitty and kitty ‘n’ doggie)! 😸🐶 I am enjoying them.

After thousands of hours in D3 RoS, it’s actually pretty easy. It’s like anything in life, a lot of experience makes it mostly autonomous. I can adjust the difficulty from “full auto brain mode” to “Damn! Too slow! I died again!” 😏 But yes, it does help with the anger management no end! I just ordered this game on pre-release (something I swore I’d never do again after being burned! Now THIS is an insane game! I can’t wait! (note, there is some swearing. I’m sure I’ll be the same!)

The other game I have pre-ordered, is Cyberpunk 2077. It’s from a studio i respect & trust, they created the “The Witcher” game series since 2007. There is now a popular “Witcher” TV series now also, on Netflix I think. A BIG deal for the studio!
I am also officially beta testing a game (they liked my credentials, especially as I played, and still play, the original game for a lot of hours that this game is based upon. the original game was Startopia (2001). It was a lot of fun! Spacebase Startopia is the new one that keeps the core concepts & characters intact, it’s more of a modern expansion with of course much improved graphics and extra levels and characters, of the original.

it’s pretty good so far. I haven’t found any major problems so far. But they are still working on the last levels of the game.
In many ways, I am glad I no longer have a car (with all the associated expenses) to worry about. Although I do miss the freedom. I have to do some serious housework, I have a lot of junk filling up cupboards I really do NOT need! I’ve run out of space. I was hoping to get my right arm fixed though. I’ll need both working properly. Oh well… As usual, just do what I can! 🤷♂️

Overclock just updated their web site (for the second time in five years) especially for member’s system builds. Mine has been updated. Not sure I like the changes, though it does look better than the previous one and is easier to use. I decided to spend some time re-formatting it (I have a little more control over the format and text now), and fixing errors and grammar. 😆

This is probably the last week at most. It used to be 30 days and now it’s 40.
Busy, oh the Tour and 5 tropical systems at a time with one coming fairly close, not as bad as flying along the coast of North Korea or Libya back in the days of my foolish youth. Yeah, tropical storms when you are surrounded by people who have never been in one can get time consuming.
I forgot how detailed you were on that build. Actually the changes Google made to Blogger in the update to Blogger 2,0 is the reason I moved to this place and switched to WordPress.
To add Trump’s screwing around with the Post Office to all of the COVID restrictions November 3rd can’t come soon enough. My absentee ballot should be mailed tomorrow and I will have that sucker in the mail the first part of next week with twice the postage required and hand delivered to the post office. My supervisor of election has a system to track ballots and tell you when it has been received and when it has been counted.
You should be getting warmer, and I hope your government has managed to get a grip on the virus, unlike mine. At least Scomo doesn’t seem to be saying the virus isn’t a problem and your state leaders aren’t as clueless as my governor. That said, none of these leaders in my country or yours took things seriously early enough to save us a lot of aggravation.
I think most people are pretty busy now, even if they don’t have a job to go to. I know I am! I remember my mostly foolish late youth, with some somewhat less than starry-eyed enthusiasm at joining the Military in my early 20’s. The things we do for mates! Not to mention a bunch of other bright ideas that seemed “a good idea at the time”.🤷♂️
Our current gang of criminals in Government are screwing our postal service too. Or I should say, have gone all out to screw it even worse than before. Happened about the same time as der Don screwed yours. Funny, that.🤷♂️
I’ve updated that build post several times the past couple of years, not just updates but adding detail as I had some messages & eMails from some people new to building a system.
It was warm just over a week ago, even into the late evening. But it’s gone back to warmish days and cooler evenings. Need to either rug up well (which is a bit restrictive) put the heating on after about 8 PM. Temp’s drop down to 16 or less.

One of my favorite real-time Historical strategy games from 2009 has been completely remastered and is being released in October. Called Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. And it’s not priced sky high for a change! AU$28 is fair enough. So i ordered a copy. I still play the original now and then, last time just before Xmas. But it is showing it’s age! So that will be fun! 😀 The original series is owned by M$, one of the many Studios they bought did a great job. It’s a very curious thing… M$ leave the game Dev’s alone and don’t bug them too much, and they deliver pretty good games! If only they could do that for OS’s and other s/w! Oh well.. Dream on! 🤷♂️

Oh, yeah I remember MS-DOS 6.0 and that whole mess. It was even worse than 5.0 which was advertised as dealing with hard drives larger than 32MB, but wouldn’t format or partition them. Half of my clients who tried Doublespace had their hard drives scrambled. Stacker was expensive, but it did what it claimed fairly seamlessly. The local thinking at the time among consultants in San Diego was M$ grabbed a copy of a beta from an early version of Stacker and didn’t test it before including it in the 6.0 release. Cost me money fixing things that shouldn’t have broken on warranty.
Screwing the postal service is the first step towards privatizing it. Got to pay off campaign donors.
I remember the Age of Empires. I wondered why I was seeing a spate of ads for it recently. Hell, M$ just reissued Flight Simulator that includes a map of the world – a bit too large to play off line.

Australia Post is essentially *privatized* in several ways, if not in fact. The LNP have been slowly changing the way it works for decades, and especially since 2012. Their latest example is this notification members received: “Notification of Online Community site closure 2 Oct 2020” — It was an active community, but the past few years it became a forum for annoyed people relying on AP to openly vent their annoyance and frustration with the slow destruction of the services. So, they did what the GOP would do, close it.
Age of Empires & AoE 2 were remastered last year and early this year. I’d forgotten, and I thought I already had those. But I didn’t. Luckily, because AoE 3: Definitive (remastered) hasn’t been launched, I was able to cancel my order. Steam had the complete collection on sale after I ordered AoE3 DE. I also found that M$ were offering a US$5 discount for anyone who owned the previous editions of each (just needed the license codes). So I saved $15 on top of the discounted bundle. Cost me AU$41 for all three. I installed the first two and tried them last night. They really did a huge overhaul, as well as the graphics updates they added a lot of speech and sound to the games. So far, so good. 😉 😀

Yesterday was warm and sunny, today looks good so far. It got cold last night though.
We started a bit earlier with Congress imposing some requirements that made it look like it was losing money as the Post Office was being required to pay for health care and retirements for the next 75 years. That requirement creates multi billion dollar expenses every year. without that requirement the Postal Service would have nearly a billion dollars in profit every year, which would mean cutting prices. If the Dems win they must address that issue.
Another thing they can address is the cost of drugs by allowing Medicare to join the Defense Department and the Veterans Administration to negotiate drug prices.
You really have a knack for finding deals.
We, as well as the whole East Coast are having cooler than normal temperatures while the West is baking. We should vote to start the new year in October and get rid of 2020.
