Who Would Have Thought
The police in Russia are going all NYPD on protestors of the recent legislative elections and claims of fraud. Now the BBC reports that Russia protests: Gorbachev calls for election re-run.
OK, so there might have been some problems. Badtux has a screen shot of some of the returns:
In the Rostov District
- United Russia 58.99%
- Communist Party RF 32.96%
- Liberal Democratic Party 23.74%
- A Just Russia 19.41%
- Apple [Russian United Democratic Party] 9.32%
- Patriots of Russia 1.46%
- Right Cause .59%
Gee, I wonder why people suspect fraud? It might just be rounding errors. [/snark]

What I love about that screen shot is the expression on the news babe’s face as she looks at those numbers. She’s like, “wha… that can’t be right!” Heh.
Chicago rules. Vote early, vote often, and bein’ dead ain’t an impediment to votin’. Clearly the Chicago economists brought the Chicago rules with them when they came over during Yeltsin’s regime to set up the Russian economy ;).

Innumeracy is a major problem with lackeys, henchmen, and toadies. They really need to find a better class of thugs to rig elections. The Miami politicians are much smoother about stealing elections and don’t get caught until an insider rats them out. They at least check to insure that none of the ‘voters’ died before the current election year, meaning they definitely haven’t been purged for the voters’ lists. They take pride in their election fraud.
Completely OT, or perhaps a day early… the Oriental cat Usyaka appears here with “laser eyes” … in a VIDEO!
How did Alexandra do that? As best I can figure out from what she wrote, she forced the flash ON on her iPhone, then took the video in near darkness.
(Whoever is plunking on the guitar in the background should give the guitar to the cat…)
Ah yes, cats and guitars. One reason I now have a music room that the cats are not allowed into is the habit of The Mighty Fang of plucking the strings with his claws, which a) does not go well with Elixir Nanoweb strings (it scratches the coating off of them) and b) didn’t do the finish of my guitar much good (it’s now got lots of cat scratches on it). Plus didn’t do my ears much good :).
Back to the subject of elections, I think the problem, Bryan, is that Miami does not have a college of economics beloved of oligarchs everywhere like Chicago does, and thus Russia’s oligarchs imported Chicago’s economists to design their perfect economic system but got Chicago electioneering with it. Who coulda thunk? 😈

I have child locks on my drawers and cabinets to keep Property from opening them for Excise, who then gets trapped when she shuts them.
It is an interesting effect, but I’m trying to stop the effect, rather than using it.
Well, Chicago is a different reality, economically and politically. I forget, do they arrest the Illinois governors while they are still in office, or do they wait until after the election?
Cats will go after viola da gamba (viol) strings as well. Viols are always gut-strung; for some rather basic reasons, modern synthetics are not an option. I am convinced the cats do not realize that “cat-gut” is really “sheep-gut,” and they think they are clawing at a long-lost cousin.
Given their hearing, just the air moving through the room may generate enough of a sound to interest a cat. I have watched Property tracking a lizard that she can’t see with her ears moving like radar antennae to locate it. If it makes sound when they touch it, it is obviously a cat toy.
