Well, This Is Interesting

Via Laura Rozen an article in Ha’aretz: Netanyahu departs for U.S. in bid to increase pressure on Iran

Opposition leader and Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday will embark for the U.S. on a visit aimed at increasing financial sanctions against Iran to get it to drop its nuclear program.

During his visit, Netanyahu is slated to meet a New York State financial official, asking him to withdraw or freeze hundreds of millions of dollars the state pension funds have invested in Iran.

Netanyahu will then arrive in Washington where he will meet for talks on the Iranian issue with Vice President Dick Cheney, Democratic Party presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, and Republican Party presidential hopeful Fred Thompson.

An interesting group of visits.

“Bibi” Netanyahu believes that military force is the only real solution to any problem. He and Cheney are a matched set. I’m not exactly surprised by the candidates he chose to visit. Nothing he has to say will advance the cause of peace in the Middle East.

O.k., Darth Cheney I get; Senator Clinton I get (after all, she’s the front runner in most, if not all, polls). But Fred Thompson. The ACTOR????? Is it because Netanyahu thinks he’s as, um, focused shall we say (or insane) as Cheney? Ya just gotta wonder how history is going to treat the first decade of this millennium.

…I guess I do idly wonder why the State of New York would have “hundreds of millions of dollars” of state pension fund money invested in Iran. One would think the looming specter of Bushco launching another war against Iran would lead the wise investor to consider divestment..

Alice, all three have strong ties to AIPAC, Likud’s lobbying arm in the US. Thompson’s lobbying credentials come to the fore.

Let’s see Civil War-WWII, Indian Wars-Vietnam, Spanish American War-Iraq – looks about the same to me.

Jack, the investments are in corporations that do business with Iran, like Halliburton and some financial and petroleum corporations. They did the same thing in Florida.

I have a copy of Netanyahu’s book, Fighting Terrorism. I bought it at an anarchist bookstore.

“Bibi” is sort a paleo-neocon, whose sanity I sincerely question. He is a danger to Israel and himself with his attitude and his plans.
