RIP Elizabeth Edwards

After a long battle with cancer Elizabeth Edwards died at home late this morning, surrounded by family and friends.

She was a military brat and a tireless advocate for health care and other issues that affect real people. Her voice will be missed.

Dear lady, may you rest in peace knowing you did your best.

Sad. Her positive attitude and ceaseless activism will be missed, especially in these crazy times.

It isn’t true, though, that the good always die young. Look at Dave Brubeck, who turned 90 (yes, ninety) yesterday.

I remember her and her tough stands on important issues when I was blogging. Very sad. Yet another candle extinguished, yet another important voice silenced. And there is nobody to step up and fill the gap.

Rest, in peace Elizabeth Edwards. It was an honor!

I always wanted to vote for her, instead of her husband. She would have been a great leader for our time, instead of the caricatures we get to vote for in the current system.

i did vote for her. the name on my primary ballot was john edwards, but i figured it meant i was really voting for elizabeth.

She should have dumped him and run on her own, but “society wasn’t ready” for that.

A terrible loss of a lovely, vibrant, and smart woman.

And have you heard this yet? It wasn’t bad enough for venal book authors to trash her because she showed some spine while they were all being virtual procurers for her husband, but NOW the stupid Westboro Baptist Church is going to picket her funeral…

Good grief.

When has Fred Phelps ever showed even a hint of Christian charity, or failed to promote his hate for humanity?

I realize that I should have prefaced that with “bless his heart”, but I sincerely doubt he or his delusional flock have enough human kindness among to possess a heart.

Elizabeth Edwards would have regarded them with pity and shown them kindness, but they should remember that John Edwards made his money as one of the nastiest trial lawyers in the nation.

Good thought there! If he could figure out a way to get these rascals, it might help towards redeeming his sorry butt. Nah, probably not, but still…

And I DO try to remember that these people are not mentally balanced, but narcissism is one of the uglier manifestations of insanity. Getting attention at the expense of others (and no matter how much it hurts another person), that’s when I have to remind myself that shooting them would not be considered “professional help”.

Juanita, that would depend on your definition of “professional” 😉

I have known a few “professionals” in my travels who would be more than happy to help.

Well said Juanita & Bryan. Couldn’t agree more. I’ll say no more (It would be inappropriate for me to rant or curse in this thread. I do respect Elizabeth Edwards, and truly hope she has found peace).
