The Pander Bear

The ABC notes that Gingrich calls Palestinians an ‘invented’ people:

US Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has drawn outrage for calling the Palestinians an “invented” people who want to destroy Israel.

He made the comment in an interview with a Jewish television channel.

Mr Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, departed from official US policy that respects the Palestinians as a people deserving their own state.

He said there was no Palestine as a state and that it was part of the Ottoman Empire until the early 20th century.

You have to wonder what Newt ‘Efting’ Grinch taught his students when he was a college history professor. The state of Palestine existed as a League of Nations British Mandate until it was broken up by the United Nations to create Israel, and the Palestinian people had been attempting to break away from the Ottoman Empire since the early 19th century.

Turning US Middle Eastern policy over to the Likudniks might be a Republican dream, but it is an international nightmare. The key to dismantling Islamic terrorism is settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and the Likud have no interest in doing it.

Following on the suggestion that he would like John ‘Bomb Iran’ Bolton, supporter of the MEK terrorist group, as Secretary of State, pretty much eliminates any credibility Gingrich had in the foreign policy or national security area.

John Bolton? I would have hoped that vile piece of rat excrement had diappeared from view.

jams, the mustache hinders Bolton’s invisibility attempts…

Bolton’s service under both Poppy and Junior Bush is enough to scare the crap out of any sane person. Do we really want World War III? If so, vote for Gingrich (and hence Bolton).

Well given that the US was 3 years late for WWI, the years late for WWII, perhaps Gingrich and Boltan want to turn up on time for number III

No matter how thoroughly you disgrace yourself, or how obviously incompetent you are, if you are a Republican, you will appear in the media as a pundit, and serve in the Executive branch of government when a Republican is in the White House. It is part of the corrupt and dysfunctional ‘system’ that our government has become.

Newt was of course simply repeating former Israeli PM Golda Meir’s most famous statement, “there is no such thing as a Palestinian”. As far as she was concerned, they were all Arabs, no different culturally from any other Arabs, and should just go to an Arab state and be Arab people and quit bothering the Israelis with claims for the land they were ethnically cleansed off of.

Yah, Israel’s early leaders were just as big of a-holes as their current leaders. This ain’t Israel’s first ethnic cleansing rodeo, yo.

It is a bit stupid to claim that your country has a ‘right’ to exist, when you refuse to extend that ‘right’ to others. No country has any such right, and their existence is dependent on what they do with their opportunities. The Soviet Union was a hell of lot bigger and more powerful than Israel, and it only lasted 70 years.

“there is no such thing as a Palestinian”

Yeah, that’s what Stella’s ex will tell you, usually as part of an agitated rant. It’s ironic: I like the guy, but he has done more to distance me from support of Israel than any other individual other than perhaps Netanyahu himself, and I’m not even sure if he is worse.
