Call Joe Isuzu

The Susan G. Komen Foundation has really fallen off the barn into the manure pile with their handling of the cut off of funds to Planned Parenthood.

Their disaster control couldn’t have been any worse than if they had announced the introduction of a pink Edsel, New Coke in a pink can, or a Walther P-22 with a pink slide … oh, wait, the handgun deal is real.

Mother Jones wants to know why they haven’t stopped funding Penn State if they aren’t going to fund organizations under investigation?

Planned Parenthood has repeatedly been investigated over the funding of abortions, and nothing has ever been found, because they are very aware of the political animosity and very careful about the accounting. Attempting to claim that this latest waste of taxpayers’ money to again investigate this issue by another whacko Congresscritter is a serious investigation is a matter best handled by a pathological liar like the Joe Isuzu character. The head of the Foundation just can’t lie believably.

Not to mention she didn’t explain why they *also* cut off grants to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the University of Kansas Medical Center, the U.S. National Cancer Institute, the Society for Women’s Health Research, and Yale University, none of which are under investigation for *anything* but all of which are engaged in stem cell research, which the same medieval goons who want to condemn women to coat-hanger abortions *also* hate because, like, ya should be able to pray the cancer away if you’re a *real* Christian, right? Right?!

The fact of the matter is that this organization has been taken over by a buncha right-wing looters (that woman gets $1M/year? Really?!). If you ever supported the Pink Mafia (so-called because of their history of suing anybody who uses the color pink to promote breast cancer treatment or awareness), I suggest supporting someone else.

Komen’s timing couldn’t be worse, either: today (2/3/2012) marks the release of a new movie, Pink Ribbon$, Inc., that paints the breast cancer industry (sic!) in a really bad light.

The reality is that no one, and certainly not Komen, has really been sufficiently “for the cure” to actually, y’know, sponsor someone who manages to find one, and the consequence is that since the 1930s, in America, breast cancer survival rates have NOT markedly improved (unlike survival rates for many other cancers), while incidence of breast cancer has significantly increased. Self-exams don’t help; mammograms don’t help; healthy diet and regular exercise don’t help… nothing helps. Well, almost nothing: a woman who has not yet been afflicted with cancer might be able to save herself… by moving to a third-world non-industrial nation.

Yes, folks, the reality is that the only clue we have about the cause of breast cancer to date is that women in industrial societies with high concentrations of environmental toxins get more of it. Better things for better living through chemistry… have a nice day, ladies.

DISCLAIMER: many years ago I did contract computer work both for Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas (now PPGC) and for M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Though working in that field surely had a strong influence on my personal opinions, none of my opinions reflect the views of my contract clients,.

I have never supported SGK for what may appear to be a shallow reason – they were too slick, too ‘Madison Avenue’. My reaction was that if they spent so much on advertising and their brand, how much could they actually be spending on research? I once had a PR firm as a client, and I have a good idea how much these campaigns cost. Even ‘free’ endorsements by ‘celebrities’ are expensive, because you have to cater to their requirements.

I wondered about the stem cell research when they dumped PP, Badtux. They handled that a good deal more smoothly than this mess. If you are selecting ‘research’ based on the views of people who hate science, you aren’t apt to find what you want.

Steve, there is definitely a triggering event for cancers of all kinds, and you won’t find it unless you look for it. When you put areas of research off limits, you aren’t seriously looking.

General JC tweeted that SGK should be in line for a Nobel for creating a pink weasel or ferret [paraphrase from memory]. That is what we are seeing – attempts to weasel out of a bad decision by people who just can’t lie convincingly and can’t even manage a bad imitation of sincerity.
