American Stupidity

While I was out and about the radio had a call-in show on discussing the shooting. I generally ignored it until a caller said that the solution to mass killings was to increase the penalty to deter people from committing these crimes.

I couldn’t believe that the moderator actually talked to this individual and discussed the Constitutional implications of some of the increased penalties being discussed. I really wanted to call to point out to both of these delusional people that the perpetrator committed suicide after murdering all those people, so it didn’t make a damn bit of difference to him what the penalty was.

And people wonder why the US keeps slipping behind the rest of the world…

Not to mention that this sort of thing is the death penalty in every state that has the death penalty, and of course the Feds have their own death penalty, as Timothy McVeigh could attest if he wasn’t, well, dead. And its kinda hard to have a more extreme punishment than death. Just sayin’.

We’ll kill them TWICE! That’ll stop’em!

I think that’s called corpse mutilation, Ellroon, and it’s sorta illegal.

We could mandate cremation of remains and disposal at a secret location, like they did in Europe when they decided after their death that someone was a heretic or a witch, but that’s probably illegal, too.

You always like to find a note, preferably handwritten, at suicides, so you have some idea what happened and why. It is also preferable that they don’t decide to involve other people in the process, especially strangers.

When people are committing crimes, they don’t think they’ll be caught, so the penalty is irrelevant. The only time it becomes germane is when you are arresting them and they realize that they are going to pay the price. This led to a lot of violence when arresting drug dealers, because they faced the same penalty as they would get for murder, so they would often resist violently. Oh, yes, those tougher penalties were really a joy for the cop shops because everyone wants to get shot up over a kilo of powder, right? 😈

There are no simple answers, no magic solutions, no quick fixes, and the people who think there are, are part of the problem.

Hey Bryan! Keep posting more of these! It will save me a lot of typing! 😈

It must be something in the food chain that is leeching away brain cells, except I know that it’s lead in the water in Washington DC because their water mains are so old that many of them use lead for a sealant.

You could be right. Lead led (sic) to the downfall of Roman and British Aristocracy after all. 😀 Romans used lead (and copper) aquifers, the Brit Aristoc’s used pewter dishware etc. which leached the lead out when they ate tomato’s and onions (or other acidic foods). They went batsh*t crazy as a result. It didn’t affect the lowly peasants because they usually ate from wood or clay dishware. Score one for the little guy’s! Woohoo! 😉 😆

Lead crystal decanters have a nice little trick when used for alcoholic beverages – the lead leeches out. Lead is an all purpose death. One of the locals died a very painful death from lead poisoning as a result of making casting nets for fishing using lead weights. He cast the weights himself and used his teeth to cinch them on the netting more often than he used pliers. The reenactors and black powder shooters who cast their own bullets are just a crazy for doing it, as they will be if they do it for long.

You are joking, right??? 😯

I mean about the idiot making nets (apologies if this offends m8… but, seriously?!)

Well… That is the best news I’ve heard this week! You definitely made my day m8! LMAO

He made the best nets in the area, all hand-tied, but one of the trademarks of his nets were the impressions of his teeth on the sinkers. He was told repeatedly to stop doing it, but he didn’t believe people who told him what would happen, and his death was not a nice thing. He was a wealthy man, by local standards, when he died, but he wouldn’t change the way he did things.

Hmmmm. Well, I guess some people are just *set in their way’s*. No matter what they are told, they believe what they want to believe. (Sounds like the *you know who’s* doesn’t it?) 😉

And as my Grandad used to say “To each, his own.” *shrug*

Pete was a very talented guy, but he was set in his ways.
