The Unkindest Cut Of All
If you are shopping in most of the larger chain supermarkets in Florida you may notice that certain items have a yellow tag with “WIC” on them. You will see them on the dairy case, the bread shelves, the produce section, but not on processed ‘foods’, snacks, or meat. Those tags identify items that have been approved for Florida’s version of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and are contained in the WIC foods listing [PDF].
This is all real food, with the possible exception of some of the approved cereals, selected by the Department of Health to improve the nutrition of pregnant women, new mothers, and children from birth to age 5. The Wikipedia article notes that the US Department of Agriculture says that the WIC program serves just over half of all infants born in the US.
When the government shuts down, so does this program. They obviously don’t care that they are taking food away from children.

The little tykes are obese anyhow. Putting them on a starvation diet will be good for them. If they didn’t want to be hungry they should have chosen to be born to millionaire parents like House Republicans. It’s those kids’ own fault for choosing to be born to losers. Besides, it will motivate them to work hard and make lots of money, preferably at an early age where they can learn the importance of minimum wage drudgery since that will be the rest of their life anyhow. I mean, school is overrated anyhow, it teaches all that anti-Christian stuff like the world is more than 8,000 years old and Jesus didn’t ride a dinosaur.
So there. I think I’ve rounded up the Republican arguments. The little tykes don’t need the food and don’t deserve it, so let them starve.

I don’t think they quite grasp the full meaning of the phrase “Suffer the little children”. They tend to be a bit too literal in many of their interpretations.
“Women are to be forced to have children that will be starved to death because it is the moral thing to do” strikes me as more than slightly odd, but then I’m considered a DFH.

Will all the insanity and just plain f*cking stupid, ignorant, selfish, yada… stuff people are doing in the World currently, it’s so easy to forget, or loose sight of the fact that there are really some pretty good and even amazingly wonderful people doing good things also. 🙂
I came across this, and thought it was worth posting. The first part is a kind of *good/bad* situation, it had a good ending, but the actual problem was caused by a thoughtless, heartless bitch (of the Bachman/Malkin kind).

Way to go Grandad! 😀 If that had happened in my family (if my Mom threw me out because I was gay), my Grandad would have beaten her black and blue, even if it meant going to prison! (Not that a) my Mom would have ever done that, heck, she would have been fighting my Grandad to beat the crap out of someone who did this kind of f*cked up crap, b) that beating these a’holes would be the right thing to do, or solve anything (with apologies to my Mom and Grandad! They were somewhat *old fashioned* you know – in a good way.) 😉 😀
I also feel quite sad for the Grandfather in that story. He certainly did the right thing, but I doubt he did it easily or with a light heart. So, that bitch seriously hurt more than just her son!
The other examples in the above article were so good also! When I read that piece, I smiled and truly felt the best I have for some time. 🙂 (Though I think the *Mother* should be sterilized and/or institutionalized just personally).
Well, I seem to remember that homosexuality is in the same section with ham and shrimp, so I’m not clear who decided that some of those ‘abominations’ are now acceptable but others are not. Seems to me if it is supposed to be taken literally, you can’t make choices like that and need to be observant Orthodox Jews before you can become a ‘real’ Christian. I don’t care what people believe as long as they keep it to themselves and don’t drive on my Mother’s lawn.
It is always disappointing to discover that someone you love is a real jerk, in this case, an even bigger jerk than Dick ‘Dick’ Cheney. Cheney might invade countries and shoot friends in the face, but he didn’t disown his daughter because she was a Lesbian.
Sociopathic lizard person of the day: Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) who says, when refusing to defer her paycheck, “I need my paycheck.” Unlike my friend Spec who works for the National Park Service as a motor pool mechanic, who apparently doesn’t need his paycheck. Or my friend Dez who works for the National Forest Service as a heavy equipment operator, who apparently doesn’t need his paycheck. Or all those children who are going to go hungry as WIC and the free/reduced meal programs run out of money, who apparently don’t need their food. Or those Capitol policemen who confronted and stopped that crazy lady today, who are out there on the beat protecting Congress but apparently don’t need their paycheck. No, Ms. Ellmers is a special little snowflake, when nobody else is getting a paycheck she’s entitled, entitled I say.

I can’t go to the commissary on base, because it is closed. My Mother still likes it for some things, but she has to wait. All of the people who work there need their paychecks, and the military people on base don’t need to drive 6 miles to the closest supermarket or 8 miles to a decent supermarket. Of course, they can’t do their big grocery purchases if they are in the lower ranks because they don’t have WIC vouchers or their Food Stamps, just some of the new benefits for our uniformed military. They are getting their base pay, but nothing else. When I was in my base pay was less than half of my check.
When I heard about the ‘gunfire’ near the Capitol, my first thought was that someone snapped because they aren’t going to get the money they were counting on, and their world just turned to total crap, so they decided to go out in a blaze of glory. If the VA payments stop, things could get very nasty. There are some vets around here who are really scary people, and there is nothing legal that can be done to keep them under supervision until after they snap. Too many PTSD cases and too many head injury cases.
Congresscritters need to invest in some soft body armor if they are going to keep screwing around like this. Ms Ellmers might want to price a APC if she’s going to be that much of a jerk. It is really amazing how uniformly sociopathic these people are. They have no connection to real, live people.
The Russians have a noun, “svolich”. which is usually translated as ‘bastard’. but it is much worse. It goes back to the destruction of Kiev by the Mongols. The ‘svolichi’ were Russians who robbed the bodies of the dead, and the concept of ghoul enters into it. The term is never used lightly or in jest, as bastard is often used in English. There is a lot venom involved. That is exactly how I feel about the Republicans in the House – they are svolichi – attempting to thrive by starving the helpless and stealing what little they have.
