Yukon Quest 2015 – Day 8

Yukon Quest map odd years

Sled DogThis morning Brent is in Circle which is 50 miles South of the Arctic Circle, not on the Circle as the founders believed. He reported that the river ice is really jumbled as a result of the warm temperatures in January followed by the recent hard freeze expansion. He has finished three-fourths of the race.

Magnus Feren Kaltenborn (23)R scratched at Dawson. Joar Ulsom has returned to Eagle, but hasn’t made a decision yet. Lance is moving very slowly and taking long breaks which may just be the result of having a team of two-year-olds.

Joar has scratched. Rob Cooke is the only team left in the Yukon. He is resting at the 40-Mile Hospitality Stop.

Cody Strathe has returned to Eagle to think things over. In addition to the early frigid temperatures the jumble ice is apparently a major problem and there have been encounters with moose and caribou which view a team of sled dogs as a wolf pack.

Cody decided to scratch for ‘the good of the team’ and Rob Cooke is in Alaska.

The Current Standings at 10:00PM CST (8:00PM PST 7:00PM AKST):

These are the official standings. That means they are official, not that they are correct. Things jump around a lot as people decide to update the standings. This problem is especially bad in the back of the pack, as no one bothers to update those standings when the lead is changing.

The Mushers in bold are former winners of the Yukon Quest, the numbers in parentheses are their Bib numbers, and the small “R” indicates a rookie.

Note: This post will be updated during the day, and the map changed on all posts to reflect the current situation.
