Terrorists

From the BBC – Virginia schools shut in Islam calligraphy row:

A school district in the US state of Virginia has closed all schools on Friday after a geography lesson that included Islam sparked vociferous complaints from around the country.

Students were asked to trace Arabic calligraphy in an exercise some parents said amounted to indoctrination.

Officials said the schools were closed out of an “abundance of caution” and there were no specific safety threats.

Tracing a graphic of a foreign language as part of the study of an area of the world that is very much in the news, is the same as forcing students to attend a madrassa according to some of the parents in Virginia.

It would appear that the reaction of the parents was considered so hostile, that school and law enforcement felt it would be prudent to close schools and let people calm down.

A quarter of the people in the world are Muslims, so they aren’t going away any time soon. Maybe if more Americans spent some time learning about Islam, as Thomas Jefferson did, they wouldn’t be diving into ditches when they saw a woman wearing a headscarf.

I wasn’t going to comment… But seriously?!

Please believe all present company is excluded, and a few other American’s I know. And I suppose there may be other exceptions…

American’s are seriously freakin batshit crazy!

OK. So, I feel better now. 🙂

The scary part, Kryten, is that the majority of these bedwetters probably own firearms. I have serious doubts as to whether this country could raise a new infantry division that could be depended on in the event of a real war. With parents this frightened, the kids are not going to have a lot of confidence.

I hear you Bryan.

When I first read your post, I really thought it was some kind of joke. So I checked around the ‘net to discover it wasn’t a joke.

I have to say, even I find this difficult to believe, though part of me knows nothing really surprises me any more.

Yeah… The future is not looking too bright right now.

And they wonder why people think the US is a joke …

OT: Stay safe, M8. Your bushfires are sounding brutal and the loss of homes is even worse at Christmas, whether from bushfires in Oz or electrical fires in Christmas trees in the US.

Ohhhh… We used to “think” the USA was a joke… But I think I can safely say most of the World is now certain. But hey, we and others are catching up fast! 🙁

OT: Thanks m8. 🙂

It’s pretty hot out. Got up to 42C yesterday. Unfortunately, I had a Doc app’t and some errands. I caught the worst of it, but I made sure to wear my faveorite Kangaroo hide hat & drink plenty of water. 🙂 I was so greatful for my overkill A/C when I got home &my new fridge/freezer well stocked with cold drinks & ice! Gotta have priorities, right? 😉

It was 36C a couple hours ago, but seems to be dropping quickly, about 33C now.

You stay warm m8! 😀

Here… I came across this for my Pinterest board. Made me chuckle for the first time in a while, maybe you & others will also. 🙂

As for predictions – a coin toss is only wrong half the time, an average that most pundits would love to have. 🙂

Caption I posted was: So how come so Many arrogant fools get it so wrong, and yet become so wealthy? Huh?

OT: Just started raining here… Hope it continues awhile! Usually only lasts less than 20 min’s.

A nuclear armed joke. With ten carrier task forces each of which have the ability to sink the entirety of any other nation’s surface navy without breathing hard.

Somehow I don’t think you should be laughing. Crazy people with nukes. Some joke. 🙁

In other news, Sikhs are getting their usual load of cr*p from all this nonsense, from Sikhs having security guards demand they remove their turbans, to Homeland Security being called on a Sikh who asked the price of two cartons of AR-15 shells, to a Sikh kid being jailed for three days on charges of “making a terrorist threat” because a bully claimed he had a bomb. Crazy sh*t. And not all of it happening in Texas. Most of it, granted, but not all of it.

SIGH.

I keep telling people here in the Bay Area that they’re making a mistake if they think the rest of the USA is like here, it’s not, it’s gone totally cray-cray. They don’t believe me. It’s so *sane* here, other than the housing prices (gulp!). Well. That’s just how it is.

Oh yeah, one thing that infuriates me totally — the Muslim population of Dearborn Michigan held an anti-ISIS rally. The right-wingers then circulated photos of this rally, claiming that it was a *PRO*-ISIS rally. Because. I don’t know how much of this is fear, and how much of it is just pure blinding hatred of brown people. This nation has a long and sad heritage of hatred of brown people, who are supposed to be property, not people in the minds of far too many Americans, and I don’t fool myself that a few Civil Rights laws have changed that.

That is the big question when looking at candidates for President – why would you trust with nuclear weapons? I am not a happy camper when I hear Senators or Presidential candidates talking like they were in North Korea.

You start with fear and then after you have enough people frightened enough, you use that to steer those people toward hatred. If you tell lies that play on biases and prejudices, you can fool a fair number of people all of the time and get them to do very evil things.
