It’s Always The Same

Family and neighbors always seem to describe murderers as quiet people, nothing out of the ordinary.

I remember Thomas Mair’s Brother saying he was non-violent and non-political and then he appeared in court:

The man accused of shooting and stabbing British MP Jo Cox to death in a brutal street attack ranted against “traitors” during a brief court appearance on Saturday.

“Death to traitors, freedom for Britain,” 52-year-old Thomas Mair said when asked to give his name in Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London, the Press Association reported.

To be fair, he did let his subscription to the South African neo-Nazi periodical lapse, but he still had the books he bought from the US neo-Nazis and other Nazi mementos in his house. Then there is the totally illegal firearm and large hunting knife. The facts don’t seem to coincide with non-violence or non-political.

It should also be noted that Mr. Mair did help neighbors weed their gardens when not planning to murder Members of Parliament.

It’s typically because most people are very unobservant. And even if they see something that might be considered strange, they are too wrapped up in themselves to make a connection. Plus, most people will rationalize anything they don’t want to believe or understand, or interpret with their own bias. As an ex cop, I’m sure you know this. You and I are trained observers, and analysts. We don’t have rose colored glasses. It’s a blessing, and a curse. 🙂

I don’t believe anything anyone says about someone else. Unless it can be fully verified. 🙂

But I do like your irony. 😉 😀

I am so sick of the neighbors and family saying they didn’t notice anything odd. This guy was a ahacko and had been for some time, but no one wanted to get involved. It is a small town and he has lived in the same house for decades, but no one noticed he was a neo-Nazi?! Monty Python got their material by reading local newspapers. 😉

I know. I think with family it’s a “guilt by association” thing. They don’t want anyone to think anyone in the family is a nutter because people will wonder if they are also (and so on). Others simply don’t want to know. If they pretend nothing is wrong, then it isn’t. And others are simply blindly ignorant.*shrug*

You are probably right about Python! Jon Stewart had endless material from the media! 😀 *sigh* I miss Jon. But I can’t blame him for getting out while he could. He did more than most, but in the end, he was preaching to the choir and knew it.

I can see a penguin on the telly of everyone on the street where Mair lives and the comment about weeding was made by guy with a knotted handkerchief on his head while an Egyptian river is in flood stage going through the middle of town.
