Litha
Today at 5:34PM [CDT] is the Summer Solstice, technically considered the “first day of Summer”, but the mid Summer by much of Europe.
Many Wiccans celebrate the day as Litha, while computer programmers honor their predecessors, the druids, who build the first solid-state computing devices, the megaliths, like Stonehenge.
The Slavs celebrate St. John’s Night, Иван Купала [Ivan Kupala], the battle between the White god [Белобог – Belobog] and the Black god [Чёрнобог – Chyornobog] for control of the Sun. The Black god always wins and the night begins to expand.
The sound track to the battle is Иванова Ночь на Лысой Горе [Night on Bald Mountain ] by Модест Петрович Мусоргский [Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky], which everyone should play very loudly.

Chyornobog would be a great name for one of my cats, except that none of the black ones are quite evil enough. now if there were a tigerstripeobog in that pantheon . . . .

Jim doesn’t really want to move to Florida — his Facebook postings are hilarious, basically every Florida Man headline or alligator headline makes it to his Facebook page with “Florida, why do you suck so much?” He claims alligators are walking prehistoric luggage and have it out for him. Unfortunately he really doesn’t have much choice. His father died a couple of years ago and his mother couldn’t cope with winters in upstate Michigan anymore and relocated to Florida. And now she’s at the point where she needs family nearby. I think you know a bit about that subject.
Well, yes, the ‘gators will chomp on you in fresh water, and sharks in salt, but it isn’t personal. The snake don’t care if you’re native born or not. People are a source of protein like all the other animals, so you have to deal with it. Guns are about as common in Florida as Alaska, but you don’t necessarily have to eat what you shoot down here, and you can’t shoot anything on a wildlife refuge. It’s chillier up there than here, but both have more that their share of whackoes.

the tigerstripeobog kitty will probably still and always be the lucrezia Borgia kitty, but I’m thinking the black-and-white kitty might get christened belachernabog, as she’s the least feral of the really feral ferals.

yes, the black and white kitty is definitely a Jekyll and hyde type. she knows she can’t hold a candle to cc, but she does try to walk in those pawprints when she can. 😈
