May you be safe from the idiots who think gravity is just a theory and fire off guns, failing to understand that what goes up will come down.

Given the prevalence of accurate timekeeping devices, it is amazing that the explosions that are supposed to signal the new year extend for hours beginning four hours before and extending well after the actual event. Anyone who thinks alcohol and gunpowder is a recipe for a long life should be avoided by insurance agents.

The new year brings new opportunities, so here’s hoping that the good wins out and the world is made a little better. It hasn’t happened yet, but there’s always a chance.

Oh, and a happy 16th blogiversary to Steve Bates at the Yellow Doggerel Something.

The rain hit here at 5 minutes after midnight and end the fireworks (OOO-RAH!!!!)

We haven’t had any thunder, much less tornadoes.

Well, it started with a lot of hilarity for me! 😆 I may be laughing the whole year! 😀

Donald Trump sparks outrage by inviting Paula White to inauguration

“Paula White has a long history of bankruptcies, failed business ventures, and unsuccessful marriages, which makes her the perfect choice to deliver a prayer on behalf of a President-elect who has proudly proclaimed that he’s never felt the need to ask forgiveness from God for anything” Christian Republican journalist Paula Bolyard wrote. — LOL Well, Someone get’s it! And a Christian Republican at that! Wonders never cease to amaze! LOL

This will be the most hilarious presidency in forever!! A Prez who believes he’s god, pissing off all the Christian fundie’s who enabled & got him elected! Ohhhh… the IRONY! LMAO And I just bet he knows Paula White intimately! She’s youngish looking (for a 50 YO (I bet most of the money she got went to Plastic Surgions, she looks like a Barbie doll), but Trump only cares about looks) & blonde, so that’s a given! LOL They really will have to change the name from White House to Whore House! LOL

So, my only question is… how long to his next divorce? 😉 😀

And again, in Florida:

Trump slammed for selling time with himself on New Year’s Eve

I have a new Pinterest friend from Florida. She’s not at all happy about Trump & his followers, or Floridians. Like you Bryan, she’s one of the few sane ones there. 🙂

4 Bryan { 01.02.17 at 9:13 pm }

All Ms White needs to do is explain Matthew 19:24 and the Book of Job before claiming any truth to her teaching to be found in Judeo-Christian sources. Bankruptcy and divorce are not really associated with a successful life.

5 Kryten42 { 01.02.17 at 10:56 pm }

I added a comment to that Paula White article in response to another (good) comment. I just couldn’t resist! LOL

If interested:
“Oh, I am SO glad I am an atheist! She is a predator like Trump and preys on gullible people to finance her luxurious lifestyle. They are both laughing all the way to the bank, while spouting WHATEVER words will achieve their greedy goals. Disgusting! We have all seen how Trump has backtracked on his racist, misogynistic statements now that he has different aims. ie, to make Americans believe he is a sheep not a wolf. No wonder Putin wanted him to win. The world should be quaking in its boots! YUK to both of these despicable excuses for humans.”

“Well said Lee. 😀 No surprise the Trumpet is into Paula. He likes his fake Barbie doll’s! Also no surprise he doesn’t feel the need to ask a god for forgiveness. He believes he only has to look into a mirror to do that, should he ever feel the need. My only question is… When is his next divorce? Can’t be too far away. 😉 😀 On the plus side, it does serve as an highly amusing distraction from our crooked con-artists currently in Canberra (you can add Turnbull/Brandis/Bishop/Pyne/Dutton/Porter/Cash/Ciobo… etc. to the list of despicable excuses for humans)! So, there is that I guess. *sigh*”

White and Trump prosper because you can fool some of the all of the time, and in the US that’s an awful lot of people. They buy and sell people just like the ‘Founding Fathers’ and are just as hypocritical about it. You can’t stop this corruption because ‘business’ can’t survive on a ‘level playing field’.

White is selling indulgences, which is not a very ‘Protestant’ practice.

Note: my first university, Colgate, was founded to train Baptist ministers, so theology is part of the curriculum whether you want it or not. One of my ancestors was a founder, so I can’t complain too much.

we had big trees blown down on houses, lots of wind, lots of rain, some funnel clouds …

the rain started well before midnight here and was coming down nearly-2014-style at midnight, but the fireworks went off anyway.

8 Bryan { 01.03.17 at 8:26 pm }

There were a lot of cells with tornado ‘signatures’ all along the coast. They came in north of me after coming ashore from Mobile to Navarre. Over 4 inches of rain and flooding on the Shoal River as usual.

The leading edge we got was massive sheets of rain, but no major winds or lightning until yesterday. There were several instances of major lightning causing the electricity to drop out as the induction charge neutralized the normal load.

Good luck Hipparchia! And all. We’ve been getting some funky weather here. Sudden thunderstorms (one this morning). Big dump of rain, then the clouds are gone and we have a hot humid day!

I was thinking that I haven’t posted a recipe in ages. Moving and no Internet for a year + health crap… priorities. 🙂

Anyway, I had a thought for something fairly simple for Halloween (but can be a good snack any time). 🙂 Vegan friendly too. 😉 Maybe you know this one already, but if not:

Garlic Pumpkin Seeds

1 cup of Pumpkin Seeds (try to make them all similar sized, as they need different cooking times. No need to be exact though).
1 tablespoon of Olive Oil (your choice of brand, quality etc.)
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire Sauce.
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (easier to use here than crushed garlic cloves, which also tend to overpower the other flavors).

Preheat oven to 375 F

In a medium-sized bowl, toss the Pumpkin Seeds with Olive oil, Worcestershire & Garlic.
Spread the seeds evenly over a baking sheet or shallow baking tray (line with parchment paper to make it easier to remove when done).
Bake for 15-20 minutes (depending on size of seeds), turning halfway through until seeds are golden all over.
Keep an eye on them to avoid burning. Listen for shells to start popping, they are done.

These make a nice tasty snack. 😀 Enjoy!

Where did you find a spatula small enough to flip pumpkin seeds? 😉

11 Moi;) { 01.05.17 at 4:31 pm }

My husband got a really really thin one somewhere….it’s like a micromillimeter.

Or, you could just pick up the parchment paper and flip them that way.

Actually I use a handle that works with a cookie sheet to make it act like a skillet. It was designed to take the pans out of the oven. It works a treat.

13 Kryten42 { 01.06.17 at 1:54 am }

You’re a funny guy Bryan! 😉 😛 😆

BTW, I used a light & fruity olive oil, but tastes will vary. Might be something of a trial & error process. 🙂 I also used the original UK Worcestershire sauce. I’ve tried a couple of *copies* and wasn’t impressed.

Same with HP Sauce. When Heinz took over, I paid a premium for a half dozen bottles of the original from an English Butcher where I lived before moving here to a country town. It seems Heinz may have learned their lesson & gone back to the original recipe (even glass bottles, though they charge more for that!)

Also, I had best results from using seeds from pumpkins & drying them myself. 🙂 Some of the ones you can buy are old & almost tasteless. Different pumpkins have different flavors & sized seeds too. 😉 Fun!

14 Kryten42 { 01.06.17 at 2:11 am }

Oh! Drat… I also tried an olive oil that was garlic infused & that was easier & worked well. 🙂 I use it for some steaks. I also got an olive oil infused with lemon for some fish. 🙂 I’d assume you can get those there?

I get mine from a local producer called ‘The Olive Tree’ (a localy made brand from Aldi). They also make a fantastic range of 12-18 YO Balsamic Vinegar varieties! 😀

LOL A quick google found a company there called ‘Olive Tree’ in KS! Their products seem quite similar to the ones from The Olive Tree here! I wonder if it’s a copy or a licensed branch? Curious. 🙂

It also seems there are several producers/suppliers of infused olive oils, so shouldn’t be a problem. 🙂

garlic pumpkin seeds! with olive oil! sounds delicious. thank you and happy new year to you, kryten!

and more weather…. MOAR WEATHER!11!!! too bad it can’t be ice storms again, like a couple of years ago. 😈

and yeah, I forgot about the lightning from last time, probably because there was so much of it that it was the occasional flashes of darkness were the surprising moments.

16 Kryten42 { 01.06.17 at 7:09 pm }

No problem Hipparchia! 😀 Hope you enjoy them. I love them too! 😀

It’s 38 C today! It’s only the start of Jan! Usually Feb. before we get near 40C. :\ Plus hot for the rest of the week. There are extreme fire warnings all over Aus. (though central Aus. (where the deserts are) is flooding! If I hear one more climate change denier, I will shoot them! I have to keep my weapons permits current, & getting a gun is dead easy for me! (Pun intended!) 😛

Yeah… I am totally fed up with morons!

I went shopping @ 8:30 to beat the heat. Was 24C when I left. Think i’ll have an ice cream I got (actually, more of a frozen mango sorbet over vanilla bean yogurt on a stick! Sounded yummy for a summer treat!) And Watermelon was on special for $1.50 / kg! I haven’t seen that price for many years! I got a whole one. I had to carve it up to fit in my fruit/veg drawer in ther fridge. LOL Apparently, they had a very good season. 😀

I’ll look for some more vegan (& gluten free, right?) recipes. I’m finaly going through my boxes from when I moved here. Found my archive CD/DVD’s. 🙂 Also found Mom’s Cook book, though I doubt there are many vegan friendly recipe’s in that! Not from the 40’s, 50’s & 60’s! LOL

Obviously the best time to get pumpkin seeds is in the Fall when they are grown for Halloween up here in the Northern half, obviously different varieties produce a variety of seeds. The standard jack-o-lantern pumpkin isn’t bad and you can score a lot of free seeds by helping friends with kids clean out their pumpkins. You will at least know when the seeds were grown and that they were ‘fresh’.

You might be able to register a logo under ‘The Olive Tree’ but it should be too generic to be registered as a trademark.

My Mother was a big fan of flavored olive oil rather than butter on bread.

This is the first time I’ve seen a black ice warning, Hipparchia. It is going to be a skating rink north of I-10.

18 Kryten42 { 01.06.17 at 8:11 pm }

Ahhh! That’s a Maltese standard that! I forget what they call it… a thick slice of fresh bread, spread olive oil & tomato paste, salt & pepper! I loved that as a kid. 😀

I mainly posted that OliveTree KC link for Jennifer (she lives there). I figured she’d see it, and she did (chatting with her on Pinterest). Jennifer said she knows the store well! LOL

19 Bryan { 01.06.17 at 9:16 pm }

Add a couple of pepperoni slices, a slice of mozzarella, pop it into a salamander/broiler for 30 seconds and you have a quick slice of near-pizza

20 Kryten42 { 01.06.17 at 10:21 pm }

Nahhh… That’s what Turkish (or other flat Pita type) bread is for! 😉 Having one for dinner actually. 😉 😀

21 Bryan { 01.07.17 at 11:41 am }

I like thick crust … 🙂

22 hipparchia { 01.07.17 at 7:35 pm }

1/4″ thick ice sheets on some collected rainwater at 2PM IN THE AFTERNOON ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE HOUSE today.

not quite the ice storm of a few years ago. high winds all morning, so I stayed inside and off the bridges most of the day anyway, black ice or no.

and you know what? all this cold, and the house completely dehumidified from running the central heat 24/7, and the house has STILL had another flea population explosion this weekend.

23 Bryan { 01.07.17 at 8:09 pm }

Get one of the flea traps I tested a while back. The SpringStar is the best for cats as it has a grid over the sticky board to keep cats from getting stuck. It uses a 4 watt night light to attract the fleas.

Tonight is supposed to be cooler longer. It was 32°F/0°C at 8PM with a windchill of 24°
