Le Tour 2020 – Stage 11

Tour de FranceChâtelaillon-Plage > Poitiers

Distance: 167.5 kilometers.

A “Flat” stage with a single Cat 4 climb. The sprinters can make up more of their lost time. The intermediate sprint is at 129.5 km at Les Grands Ajoncs.

  • Côte de Cherveux 91.0 km (cat 4: 1.1km @ 4.4%)

Matthieu Ladagnous jumped out at the start and led the race for 120 kilometers. He took the Polka Dot point and the Sprint point with no one near him. At the finish it was Caleb Ewan taking his second stage win of this Tour by maybe 4 inches in a bunched sprint.

Davide Formolo did not start after breaking his collorbone yesterday, and Gregor Mühlberger (illness) and Ion Izaguirre Insausti (crash injury) withdrew from the race.

Note: Wikipedia has a simple article on the Mountain classification used on the Tour. The basic fact is that climbs fall into five types, with the four numbered types decreasing in difficulty as the numbers get larger, and then there is the Hors Catégorie, literally “without category”, which generally makes you look for an elevator or Sherpas.
