we should give up naming them all and just number them, something like 2020-1, 2020-2, 2020-elventyone…

just dropping by for a short time — we all made it through the storms more or less ok here, hoping you did too.

this year, my current crop of cats all hunkered down and stayed quiet as the grave, which led me to spend much of sally remembering curmudgeon cat racing up the stairs to scream back at the screaming winds of hurricane ivan, then racing back downstairs to tell the rest of us that the world as we knew it was coming to an end, then racing back upstairs…

Tropical Depression Twenty-nine makes its appearance in the Caribbean at 4PM today, so don’t eat your storm rations yet and get more batteries.

Well, there was plenty to scream about in Ivan. 😉

and curmudgeon cat did enough screaming for all of us, you may even have heard him where you are and thought it was just the storm winds (i still miss him, and the fluffy black dog too)

Yes FBD the godfather of stray cats. A friend who use to live across the street from me had a cocker spaniel with a similar affinity for cats.

The ones with ‘character’ are the ones you miss the most.

the ‘characters’ do make an impression, don’t they?

speaking of impressions, i was sitting here watching election returns, having flashbacks to 2006, when i stayed up till 3am or so, back when (among other things) max baucus winning a senate seat seemed like a good thing. i think i won’t stay up late this time.

and yes, having eaten some of my storm rations already, i’m going to have to buy MOAR, ARGH!

It’s going to be Thursday or Friday before we will now anything for certain about the election.

Right now Eta is on track to tour Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, then hit the Caribbean again to cut across Cuba, the Keys, and South Florida. Evil storm.

it’s just cold enough here that i wouldn’t mind a nice caribbean tour myself 😈

i’ve spent portions of today gaming out various scenarios; my favorite so far, trump and the new scotus steal the election, trump is inaugurated january 2021, pelosi begins impeachment proceedings, and enough republican senators are opposed to OPEN election theft that they get rid of him.

did i say scenario? i guess that would more properly be labelled a fantasy, or even a nightmare, since it would leave us with president pence, whom everybody, even the sanest of democrats, seems to think is actually ‘presidential’ and and well-meaning.

i think i will go binge on the rest of my hurricane food now. i’ll just have to go on a hunger strike if hurricane eta decides to extend that caribbean tour to the emerald coast.

I don’t think mudslides and floods are much of an improvement over chilly weather. 😉

The storm looks like after hitting South Florida it is going to be sucked into a low pressure system that is dropping south into the Gulf.

Trump doesn’t seem to understand that you have to show something plausible for a court to hear a law suit. States are counting votes which is what they are supposed to do in elections. The only tort I see is the conduct of the Postmaster General in slowing and/or losing ballots. We have to wait because Republican legislatures in the swing states refused to change the laws and allow counting of mail-in ballots before election day.

I guess I’ll need to eat my hurricane ice cream. I buy it so I don’t feel guilt about eating it to prevent it from spoiling if the power goes out.

9 hipparchia { 11.06.20 at 6:44 pm }

hurricane ice cream, i like that. unfortunately, i can’t keep ice cream in the house, somebody always sits down and eats ALL of it, and unfortunately i cannot blame any of the cats for this. however, with hurricane eleventyone heading this way next week, maybe i’ll try your strategy.

10 Bryan { 11.06.20 at 7:01 pm }

Sounds like you have already been in training for my strategy 😉

Eta hasn’t settled on an itinerary after it passes over the Keys. It looks like there is a low moving in that will attract it and pull to the northern Gulf. I hate it when they can’t make up their minds as to their victims.

too much uncertainty in your future? eat moar ice cream! 😈

I’m already ODing from the election – there really is too much of even a fabulous thing like Otter Paws or Black Jack Cherry 😈

13 hipparchia { 11.07.20 at 10:38 am }

otter paws!

well, anyway, i stepped indoors, taking a break from yard work (which i was doing to keep from obsessively watching election returns) to hear them call it for biden.

back to yard work now, to celebrate.

14 Bryan { 11.07.20 at 3:15 pm }

Not my form of celebration, but to each their own. The current resident was playing golf as usual and was greeted with a cheering crowd of Democratic voters when he returned to the White House.

15 hipparchia { 11.07.20 at 8:26 pm }

well, it involved a lot of digging and clearing to start with, but ended with planting the baby plants that have been growing from some cuttings i took earlier this summer, so, yes, a small celebration.

16 Bryan { 11.09.20 at 3:06 pm }

Something of a metaphor for the election 😉

17 hipparchia { 11.14.20 at 6:50 pm }

extending that metaphor… the baby plants look very happy and well settled in in their new location 🙂
