Australia Day

flag of Australia

The anniversary of the landing of the First Fleet under Captain Arthur Phillip at Port Jackson in New South Wales on January 26th, 1788.

Here’s the official site, and more information at Wikipedia.

[I should note that recently this has taken on most of the controversy of Columbus Day in the US, with some people noting the event being celebrated was actually an invasion. I have no right to an opinion on the controversy. Also, the 25th in the US is the 26th in Australia.]

Hmmm…🤔 I think you do have a right of an opinion. Given that the USA was founded after an invasion & mass murder of the indigenes, as Australia was. The primary difference was the the British wanted to “colonize” the land that became the US of A to steal all the resources they could ship back to Great Britain. Whereas, Aus. was to be a Penal Colony where GB could send and punish with a lifetime (usually brief) of hard labor, all the riffraff & assorted trouble makers for the Lords, Ladies & Gentlemen that were becoming annoyed by the noise & the smell. Except for the region that became South Australia which was for the settlement of land owners & businessmen.

It was good to see, finally, many more Aussies finally understand. Of course, our PM Scummo, being a completely ignorant moron, doesn’t understand why people are angry over it.🤷‍♂️😠

You have to remember all of the people who have died when Americans think they know how to fix other nations problems. Hell, we still haven’t fixed all of our problems over slavery and the treatment of indigenous peoples, so we should stay out of similar problems in other nations. If we knew what to do, why haven’t we fixed our own problems. We can’t even get some people to accept that there are problems.

The colony that became the state of Georgia was founded as a penal colony for Britain. New York was settled by the Dutch who bought land from the Native American tribes. The Dutch bought the flood plains beside the major rivers as the tribes didn’t settle there because of floods, and even then the Dutch knew a lot about flood control. The colony was given to the British in the marriage contract of William of Orange & Nassau and the Mary, daughter of the Duke of York, hence the name change from New Holland to New York. The good relations with the Iroquois ended in the Revolution.

The good news is that Biden has selected a Native American to head the Department of the Interior, which the part of the US government that deals with Native Americans. This is a first.

I don’t think my opinion would help the situation and it would be seen as outside agitation by people who disagree with me. In the end Australians need to solve Australian problems unless all sides agree to mediation.
