Not Running For President

Louisiana governor, Bobby Jindal, who is not running for President, has another out of state fundraiser scheduled.  This time the Times Picayune tells us it is in North Carolina

BATON ROUGE — Gov. Bobby Jindal’s out-of-state travels for his re-election campaign continues Wednesday as he embarks on a three-city North Carolina tour for two fundraisers and a keynote address to the John Locke Foundation’s Annual Dinner.

I’m sure that the people in North Carolina are just as interested in “good government” in Louisiana as the people in Iowa, where the “Not Running For President” tour started last November.

…his is a fascinating quasi-stealth campaign. The ‘non-candidate’ is running all over the South gathering up chits while Limbaugh’s proclaimed “Leader” from The Great White North is firing up useless websites and careening around the country being a celebrity “leader” rather than a Governor. It’s going to be interesting to watch this not-quite-competition play itself out…

It is disgustingly early for so many people to not be running for President so hard.

Well, to be fair, Bobby needs four years to not run for President, just as he needed four years to not run for Governor of Louisiana. He needs four years of being photographed with a shotgun and brace of ducks in his hands grinning outside of a duck blind, being spotted at evangelical churches pressing the flesh, and otherwise building his credentials as an honorary redneck rather than as a suspiciously dusky furrin feller. Bobby tried running for governor of Louisiana as a smart guy, and got whacked and sent back to study hall. His second run, he ran as an honorary redneck, complete with duck blind, story of participating in an exorcism, and holy babbling, and won. Replicating that amongst the rest of the Republican base is going to be a stretch though. Louisiana is a very small state and Jindal was all over that state for years and years before he won the governorship, but he has replicate that all over the former Confederacy or he has no chance outside of Louisiana.

He is sort of sneaking up on the concept, waiting for other people to suggest that he should run, which is the whole point of “not running”.

I would love to see campaign contributions limited to people who can actually vote for the candidate running.
