"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Hmmmmm…..Let me think…..tough question….

Of course, if you are illiterate blue is a better color.
Of course, if you are illiterate blue is a better color.
Well, that explains why the Bushmoron’s admin did everything in blue then. I guess they figured there are a heck of a lot of illiterate morons in the USA. 🙂
Personally… I like red. Honest… It’s my fave color. Ask LadyMin. 😉
Then again… maybe you shouldn’t ask her! Ahem…
LOL
OT: Hey bryan… How’d you like to be a kinda beta tester for my site in a week or so? No pressure, no money… LOL LadyMin is gonna be. 😉
But to be serious… I am looking for a couple IT literate and intelligent people to do their best to break the site. 🙂 We have 4 complete Internet newb’s who would find a way to break most sites by doing things an IT literate type wouldn’t dream of! And you know that’s true! LOL
If you have a few hours total to spare over a week (time you spend is totally up to you), I’d appreciate it. 🙂 There will be a private beta testers blog (or maybe forum, haven’t totally decided yet) where you can post any thoughts or findings as you go, and can discuss with other testers. We have 2 other IT literate types. I want to try to get 4 of each, I think that would do. 🙂 One or two of the IT types (that I believe I can trust) will have Admin access. Not much point in just testing the front end. 🙂
On the fires front: Official death toll has reached 200, with more expected. The Water authority is very worried about the two main reservoirs being polluted and have already pumped over 2 gigaliters to another reservoir out of the fire affected areas. Wildlife casualties are estimated at about 2 million.
And… The ABC reports GM to cut 47,000 jobs, begs for cash.
This is after the stupid US Gov gave them $13.4 billion. If the Gov had given that money to the people who actually buy things, maybe people would have bought cars.
“Stupid is as stupid does”.
Some can’t read; others won’t. Both groups are illiterate, but the ones that won’t tend to be easier to fool.
OT: I grab the links for my fires update last night but didn’t post until this morning. Testing the water for pH levels might not be a bad idea, given all the wood ash.
Amazingly enough, both the Parks Service and the military are doing controlled burns on their areas today as we have had rain and the winds are near zero. There is a lot of pine forest that really needs clearing out, and with production down at the paper mills it is not going to be dealt with as quickly as it normally would.
The problem with trying to help Chrysler and GM by giving money to potential car buyers in the US is that they would buy Toyotas and Hondas. You can buy GM cars that are never sold in this country, and it is not just the steering wheel position. GM and Ford have made good small cars in other countries for years, and didn’t sell them in this country. They still don’t make them in the US, those that are appearing come from Mexico and Brazil. Jerks.
I’m good for the beta. You can get a free account at WordPress.com and make it a subscribers only site with password protection on posts. Throw up some critter pics for the curious and no one will know what’s going on.
Those posters should have their colors reversed… blue is calm and red is alarm. I love all the jewel tone colors… but red is the best.
GM was too busy making and selling the high profit SUVs and trucks to worry about providing small, efficient cars for Americans. And then they wonder why people don’t care if they live or die.

During WWII a lot of things on the Home Front were printed in red, as the other two colors were being combined for the ugly universal olive drab that nearly everything associate with the military was painted. Lucky Strike cigarettes had a green circle before the War, but switched to red to save the green pigments. The Home Front and Hospitals were the only places you saw red during the War. They took this sort of thing seriously, unlike the Hedgemony.
Thanks for the history lesson. I knew there were real sacrifices like rationing and shortages… I’ve heard those stories from my parents. But I didn’t know pigments were among them.

One of my earliest memories, for whatever reason, was after the War in the early 1950s and we still had milk delivery in bottles. They also delivered eggs, but butter still wasn’t available so there was “oleomargarine”. It came in a pouch and was white. There was a capsule of yellow food coloring in the package and you had to dump it in and squeeze the bag until it was mixed and looked like butter, sort of.
I have never used anything but real butter since I started buying my own groceries. That was some evil, oily stuff that would coat your tongue even on toast.
