Le Tour 2017 – Stage 19

Tour de FranceEmbrun – Salon-de-Provence

Distance: 222.5 kilometers.

A ‘flat’ stage in the mind of the the Tour with category 3 Col Lebraut, category 3 Côte de Bréziers, and category 3 Col du Pointu. Time trial tomorrow.

Today is Belgium’s national day, and Belgian riders pushed to the front to win the stage, but were thwarted by Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen. There were 20 riders in the breakaway out front and then everyone else in the peloton that was 12 minutes+ behind. A very ‘protect the status quo’ stage from the teams.

Note: Wikipedia has a simple article on the Mountain classification used on the Tour. The basic fact is that climbs fall into five types, with the four numbered types decreasing in difficulty as the numbers get larger, and then there is the Hors Catégorie, literally “without category”, which generally makes you look for an elevator or Sherpas.

Go to the CATEGORIES drop-down box below the CALENDAR and select “Le Tour” for all of the posts related to the race on this site.
