Distance: 176.3 kilometers.

A Mountain stage with three Category climbs and a summit finish.

  • Col de Grosse Pierre 87.2 km (Cat 3: 3.1km @ 6.4%)
  • Col des Croix 205.0 km (Cat 3: 3.2km @ 6.3%)
  • La Super Planche des Belles Filles 176.3 km (Cat 1: 7.0km @ 8.7%)

The intermediate sprint is at 101.2 km at Gérardmer.

Update: Daniel Oss (TDE – 186) did not start Stage 6 because an accident on Stage 5 fractured a cervical vertebra and he will be in a brace for some time. The accident was caused by spectators.

Note: Wikipedia has a simple article on the Mountain classification used on the Tour. The basic fact is that climbs fall into five types, with the four numbered types decreasing in difficulty as the numbers get larger, and then there is the Hors Catégorie, literally “without category”, which generally makes you look for an elevator or Sherpas.
