How to know you’re getting old: You remember seeing men walking on the moon.

“Daddy, why are those people bouncing so high when they walk?”

“Because they’re on the moon, son!”

“But why?”

“Because the Moon has lower gravity!”

“What’s gravity?”

“Err…. let’s just watch them bounce around, okay?”

My dad wasn’t quite up to explaining gravity to a five year old child, lol.

My Dad was alive for Lindburgh’s flight and the moon landing. I was flying from Alaska, but with an unit that could process the raw data from the moon.

I was 12 then. I remember watching it completely fascinated with Mom on our B/W Pye TV. Good times. 😀

I hope you and Badtux are well Bryan. 👍😊

My daily computer is giving me fits, so I’m using my Pi4 and Ubuntu, but medically no real problems. You are more active on Twitter these days which keeps you out of the pubs.

It was an amazing time when people were doing inspiring things…

Well! Funny you mentioning your computer being a PITA!

My PC died last week. MoBo I think. Of course, I sold my Dell Precision M6800 notebook late last year as I simply wasn’t using it & I decided to sell it to a friend of a friend who wanted a portable CAD/GFX system (which is what it was designed for) and offered a very good price. I did keep my Dell Tablet, but had been neglecting updats for a few years. And it had nothing but trouble connecting to my Router via WiFi. Of course, it has no Ethernet jack. I had d/l updates in 2021 for it, just hadn’t installed them.

First thing was to update the BIOS as I sauspected that was at least part of the WiFi issue. And found I couldn’t! When I trued to start in the BIOS setup at boot, it would freeze at about 80% loading & stop. My neighbor let me use his notebook yesterday to d/l the windows version of the BIOS update & a Win10 update from Dell. Good thing I kept my support/service account!

Anyway, that worked & the BIOS was updated from v09 to v17. Yes I’d been very slack in my updates! But it was working fine, & worked with my ASUS Router, until I had to go back to the NBN supplied POS a few Months ago.

So, after BIOS/W10/many Intel/Dell driver updates… Here I am! I hope. Guess we’ll see. 😉 😀

Timing really SUX! I really did NOT want to update my PC until around mid 2023!

I’ll have a look at what I can get for a few $hundred (AU). Just need a MoBo & CPU (no way I will get Z270X based MoBo for my CPU). If I do have to buy a current MoBo/CPU, I’ll go AMD again. I think their are current ZEN3 MoBo’s at the lower end that support DDR4 RAM (all the mid-high end use the new DDR5).

I’ll see what’s available & prices.

I do hope youa re all well & your problems are sorted Bryan. Take care my friend. It’s insane out there! (Not that you need me to tell you that!)

I saw your tweet. I’m using the Pi 4B/8GB RAM with Ubuntu when the Win10 has the vapors. The Pi isn’t as fast but it’s reliable and and the USB 3.0 ports can handle reasonable transfer speeds.

I’ll either get another refurbished from Amazon or move my Big Box into the ‘office’.

It looks like another La Niña is building which suppresses Atlantic storms but dumps water on you. There is no normal anymore.

I see where ScoMo is in trouble again, but not as much trouble as Trump. Trump currently has legal problems in New York, Georgia, and Florida.

Take care, M8. I do read your Tweets.

Here’s a laugh for you… Your’s is the ONLY site I have tried that I can reliably access from my Dell Tablet! 😆

But, at least I can play some of my fave older games on it fine. *shrug*

And the weirdness of my existence continues… My current android mobile phone that has been dying the past year (the top panel/display has been slowly lifting off & it’s only held on at the top now). I lost the Mic first (it’s at the bottom, so yeah). Redirected it to my landline. Been saving for a new one. Anyway… It also refuses to connect to my WiFi net.

I found my previous mobile, which can’t get a signal, but DOES connect to my WiFi! Been using that for internet. However, all the sites I have accounts on, require me to enter a PIN that is sent via SMS. *sigh* Turns out, my current 90% dead mobile can receive SMS (and calls, but they can’t hear me). A problem with it was that I couldn’t turn the phone on as the side power button can’t work as the 2 tiny solder points it bridges are up in the air now. So, I got out my soldering iron & big magnifier & soldered a small push-button switch to it with some thin AWG 28 solid copper wire I had. Good thing I kept a few boxes of bit’s n pieces! 😆

So, I have 1 mobile for SMS, & the other for Internet, and my tablet to play games & visit your site! The irony is crazy!

I finally was able to do my grocery order at least. Also checking what CPU/MoBo’s I can get under AU$500-600 & a new Mobile. I was going to order a ‘dumb-phone’ (voice/sms/mms only) for $60 when my PC died. That made me realize I better get a ‘stupid overpriced’ smart-phone! I’ll also have to get a decent CPU cooler, my current water cooler doesn’t have mounting for AM4 sockets. 🙁 A shame, it’s really a great cooler! But, given it’s also almost 7 years old, probably close to EOL anyway.

Probably get a Ryzen 3 4100 for $150… But I need something I can actually use for a year at least, & it has to be the new AM4 socket (so when I do upgrade to Ryzen 7 6000 series, I’ll have a spare). Thinking of a Ryzen 5 5600X for around the $330 mark.

There is an ASRock B550M Steel Legend MoBo on sale for $179. And it supports DDR4 RAM, so I can use my Corsair Dominator Platinum kit that I got early 2020 & don’t want to throw away just yet! Sweet spot to the new Ryzen 5000 CPU’s is 3,600 MHz, which these will do. I’ll have to check trusted reviews on the MoBo first.

I also need a new case. That was already budgeted for in my major upgrade anyway. So I’ll get a good one I won’t have to u/g for years!

Phew!

Scummo is a moron. As Grandpa used to say “Too clever by half!” His ‘friends’ (of convenience) are abandoning him in droves. Even Murdoch is helping Dutton throw him under the bus! Same with Dottard! Even his kids are smarter than him & are making deals with everyone who’s after their dad! 😆 I just hope they go after the other sociopathic morons like MTG and the others!

It’s been pretty much non-stop rain for over 3 weeks here. Sometimes it pauses for a while. Today has been partially cloudy, but no rain so far.

I tried to make use of my old Pi 3. But it doesn’t like my crap NBN cheap POS Netcomm router either. I got my ASUS DSL-AC68U out and now that I can d/l the latest NBN compatible firmware on my mobile & store it on a uSD card, I’ll set that up this weekend. It has AC 1900 Wifi. I used that before NBN for my 2 GB/s NAS teamed Ethernet.

I know you check Twitter. 🙂 But I haven’t been tweeting much lately! 😆

I hear Summer is pretty rough there. Stay cool & hydrated my friend! And good luck with your elected morons!

Stand by. I’m behind is some property management stuff, so the the tropical weather stuff is about all I could manage for a bit and I have to for my annual medical tests in the morning. I will be back.

9 Bryan { 08.22.22 at 9:08 pm }

My problems are much improved by the latest Win10 patches and a driver update, but he can’t trust it. I’ve doubled by back-up frequency and will start cloning the boot SSD.

I put a Ryzen 5-3400G in my new board (ASRock X570 Pro 4) to avoid buying a separate graphics card and I happy with it. My problem is that there isn’t room for the big box in my office. I have an iPhone SE and a back–up Motorola Stylus as well as the iPad. The Moto has a bigger screen and better camera than the iPhone, so it would tide me over waiting to get a new box if this HP finally rolls over and dies.

We went from two months of heat advisories to rain every day. So far we haven’t had a single named tropical storm this month which is at odds with all of the predictions of a busy hurricane season. Weird!

The Former Guy just filed paperwork with a court in which he admits he took classified documents and stored them in an insecure environment to complain about the search warrant that the FBI served. He filed the paperwork, not an attorney, so he has no one else to blame.

ScoMo appointed himself to three ministries in secret? We have some whacked out leaders.

10 Kryten42 { 08.24.22 at 3:25 am }

Hi Bryan. 🙂 Good to hear things are improving.

Scummo had control of 5 ministries actually. We’ll see what happens.

We’ve had rain for over 3 weeks now. It’s raining now.

I decided to buy a new NBN certified modem/router/VoIP/WiFi unit. TP-Link Archer VR2100V gets best reviews for NBN use. On my first break so far, Amazon have it on sale at AU$170 with free shipping & delivery Mon. Usual price is $210 – $275 + delivery. My ISP is $210. But they lock it & TP-Link won’t support it. Also get a USB-to-Ethernet adaptor for tablet for $20.

I saw that crap by Dotard. Also wants the Warrant made public. I doubt that will happen unredacted.

I hate using this damed mobile! Be great (I hope) to get the router & adaptor. We’ll see.

11 Bryan { 08.26.22 at 9:29 pm }

I have a TP-Link router and extenders and they have been trouble free for years. The extenders are for my security cameras on other buildings on the property.

l understand about your pain for using a mobile for extended typing. The iPad is better, but not like my regular keyboard. My fingers are too big for the iPhone.

WTF? Five secret ministries?! Didn’t he trust anyone in the Coalition to handle those portfolios? That’s some serious dysfunction.

The redacted affidavit is out and is as bad as we thought. Trump hoped to get the names of some witnesses so he could launch his minions at them. The FBI is not than stupid and the judge was certainly sympathetic based on the crap he has put up with from those Trumpkins.

They should file charges and stash him at a Federal facility… maybe Guantanamo, until trial.
