June 6, 1944 D-Day

This is the 79th anniversary of one of history’s biggest military gambles – the invasion of Normandy. There were so many things that had to fall into place for it to work, that it really is amazing that it did.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt told a news conference the invasion did not mean the war was over. He said: “You don’t just walk to Berlin, and the sooner this country realizes that the better.”

The war continued for almost a year, but FDR did not, dying a month before the German surrender.

This is what it was like when the US had adults in the White House.

The original Antifa.

My Dad was dropping bombs from a B-24 stationed in Italy. Most of the two generations of my family before mine were engaged in stopping fascists.

Imagining the sheer magnitude of the operation and the risks involved sends shivers down my spine. President Roosevelt’s words remind us that victory was not guaranteed, and it must have taken true leadership to keep the nation focused and determined. It’s a stark contrast to the present, where I find myself yearning for leaders who embody that same level of responsibility and vision.

There’s too much money in the system.

I just saw on T that Florida has enacted a “Permitless (new word for FL RWNJ’s to throw around) Concealed carry Law”!

The lunatic’s are going to increase & be more dangerous! 🤦🏽‍♂️🙄😖

The system in place before the change wasn’t worth much. The Concealed Carry Permits were a joke. They were issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs which has zero ability to access criminal records or court orders. The only qualifier was to have $160 for a course to prove you know which end of the gun the bullet comes out and the use of force laws which are basically “I feared for my life, your honor.” Now the morons have an extra $160 for ammo. Pathetic!

Well… I know that ‘your neck of the woods’ wasn’t the safest part of FL or USA generally. But that was mostly local wildlife & the occasional nutter, before the Ron Insanity happened. *sigh*

People in the USA like the willfully ignorant gun nut who replied to my tweet here, are a major part of the problem. I posted one authentic replay to set him off, of course it did! LUL I’m ignoring him now, as are all my friends there. Sometimes, feeding trolls isn’t worth it. 😉

I also know you are intelligent & aware. But I am concerned. I wish you the best I can. Take care mate!

We have been in fire fights, unlike these tough guy want-a-bes. It isn’t the same when targets shoot back. Time in law enforcement in an urban environment gives you plenty of training in spotting threats. Bars and Walmart are the danger zones. These guys aren’t very clever in the “conceal” part of carrying a weapon.

I appreciate your concern, but I’m the “danger” in my neighborhood.

😂 I have no doubt at all that you are Bryan!👍🏽

For us, the “gun/knife/whatever” was just an extension of us. We were the weapon! The gun’s, knives etc. are only tools. Used properly & with the correct knowledge & training, they are deadly to the target we choose. These morons make the tools dangerous to everyone around them & themselves.

You are one of few people still alive that understands me. And I, you. There is a lot we don’t known about each other, but that’s just details. We know the important, core, parts. 🙂 I am glad to have ‘met’ you here those many years ago! You have helped me stay sane, honestly.

Unlike EM who is trying to drive me & most of the sane people on T insane! My YT friend Yong Yee has a vid about the Musky Skunk’s latest stupidity! 🤦🏽‍♂️😖

Twitter Is Imploding After Elon Musk Decides To Limit How Many Posts You Can READ Daily

Hmm! The link didn’t work. I must have mistyped something! I’ll post the raw link:

There are a lot of new people on Mastadon and other Fediverse instances from the failing social media sites who are now being “ruled” by Musk wannabes.

I’m happy on mstdn.social as it is based in the Netherlands and I don’t have to worry about US stupidity and I really liked Amsterdam when I was stationed in Europe. It also has coverage of the Ukrainian – Russian war, something “Noel Smuk” blocks on Twitter.

As for using what’s available, most people are unaware of the offensive potential of a CO2 fire extinguisher. After you have frozen whatever, you break them with the empty tank.

I’m currently attempting to ignore the fire works for the 4th of July.

Stay safe & sane, my brother.

Mastodon is definitely more sane. Also a lot more diverse than T or FB ever were. If it weren’t for some good friends still on T, I’d dump it completely. I don’t think I have your handle on m.s?

Ahhh! 4th of July in the USA. Where rednecks ignore (or more likely, never heard of) the Law that “what goes up, must come down!”

I think we chatted a couple times long ago about what constitutes a weapon. With the training I had most of my early life & the Army, everything is a weapon. Especially because I also learned all the many Human vulnerabilities & how to use them. Humans a far more vulnerable than these MAGAts could possibly understand.

Ah well.. ‘stupid is, as stupid does’! And always will be.

I’m using @perun@mstdn.social. Some say Perun was a Slavic war god, but he and the Slavs were more about defense than offense. Bluesky doesn’t look like it is anything more than a Beta for something else and Threads is just another attempt at stealing “your precious fluids” for scammers and spammers.

Two dead and dozens hospitalized by fireworks. If you looked at the cost of ammo it is pretty stupid even if you’re firing into a sand bank. Lookin at how these people live I wonder how they are getting the money for the guns and ammo, not to mention the cost of a pickup truck.

We used the CO2

14 Kryten42 { 07.07.23 at 12:52 am }

Oh! I am following you on m.s 🙂

I mastered Judo to 2nd Dan black (started at 8) and a few years of Kendo (not because of the swords, which were harder to master than many may think, but mostly because I wanted to learn to use the “arsenal of small, bladed, weapons”, like Shuriken & Kunai (knives). That came in very handy for the Commando unit (and one reason I was chosen). Also learned to use the Japanese Combat Bow’s. All of which proved useful in Cambodia. I may not be as fit now, but my reflexes & muscle memory still work. 🙂

PS: We used CO2 (and other liquified gasses) sometimes. Fast & easy way to bypass locks etc. 😉

Only 2 dead? I’m surprised. 🙄🤷🏽‍♂️
