Distance: 22.4 kilometers.
An Indivual Time Trial stage with one climb. Intermediate times are taken at Passy Chef-Lieu (7.1 km), Domancy (16.1 km), and Côte de Domancy (18.9km). Riders leave the start every 1½ minutes (about 3½ hours for all of the riders to start, and under an hour to the finish.)

The basic fact is that climbs fall into five types, with the four numbered types decreasing in difficulty as the numbers get larger, and then there is the Hors Catégorie, literally “without category”, which generally makes you look for an elevator or Sherpas.
