Iditarod 2024 – Day 3

Iditarod 2022 MapSled DogThe temperature is forecast to be in the mid 10s to high 20s °F with snow which is borderline for running sled dogs. Many teams will rest during the day and run at night.

On early Monday morning outside of Skwenta, Dallas Seavey encountered a moose which ended with a dead moose and one injured dog. Having lived in Alaska, trust me – moose are mental. They are the reason you go armed outside of town. Bears and wolves are not a real threat to humans most of the time, but moose are the biggest threat to people, dogs, and VW Beetles.

The Mushers in bold are former winners of the Iditarod. The numbers in parentheses are their Bib numbers. The small “R” indicates a total rookie.

These are the official standings. That means they are official, not that they are correct. Things jump around a lot as people decide to update the standings. This problem is especially bad in the back of the pack, as no one bothers to update those standings when the lead is changing.

This post will be updated during the day, and the map changed on all posts to reflect the current situation.
