First time I’ve seen that plate. I wonder why more people don’t jump for it. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

It shows up around here because of the Ranger school on Eglin. This is the last of the “veterans” plates.

Ach we don’t get those sort of plates here. Hey on a separate note thanks to you putting the seed in my mind, I am fast becoming a Discworld fan! I didn’t like the first book Colour of Magic at all but I love the others I’ve read, Mort, Reaperman, Hogfather, Thud, Going Postal.. I know they are out of chronology but still very enjoyable.

To understand the Colour of Magic you really need to be fan of the genre and be widely read in it because it’s a parody of many other writers. Actually Rincewind is my least favorite character. Death and his granddaughter are great.

Soul Music will be right up your alley, Jams.

I like Sam Vimes too and his motley crew of watchmen, golems, dwarves, trolls and a vampire!

As I probably have mentioned before, my late uncle was in the 101st Airborne in W.W. II, and made jumps into some truly scary situations. (As far as I can tell, his outfit was no relation to today’s 101st Keyboarders, whose greatest risk is carpal tunnel syndrome.) Uncle Wesley would have loved that plate; his war experience was the high point of his life, and he kept reminders of it visible everywhere.

As for me… can I get that plate with the text “WUFFO”? Probably 30 years ago I knew a woman, a physicist on the research staff at an institution where I worked, who was seven times U.S. women’s style champion and a frequent participant on the U.S. team in parachute competitions. She explained to me that I was a “wuffo,” which apparently derives from the phrase, “wuffo you wanna jump outta a perfectly good airplane?”

Thanks for the info on The Colour of Magic; I could tell it was satire and/or parody, but I didn’t know the object. Rincewind has been a bit tedious to read about, but so far I haven’t found a bad book in the series. I get the impression Pratchett doesn’t take himself very seriously, which is probably a good thing in his line of fiction. (Yesterday’s trip to a used book store netted me two more, Moving Pictures and The Truth. This is all your fault, Bryan!)

If you have read Jules Verne, Anne McCaffrey, Fritz Leiber, and Robert E. Howard, it is much funnier and makes more sense. Most people get the reference to Conan the Barbarian, and Around The World In 80 Days but they miss many of the others.

Jams, the Watch, the Witches, and Death are my favorites with the Wizards providing the comic relief for anyone who has ever worked in academia.

Steve, I checked with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ personalized plate inquiry page. WUFFO is available as a personalized plate combo, and it would fit on the Paratrooper plate.

So move to Florida and get it!
