It’s That Time

Elayne had to report that Datsa has passed.

Datsa, for those who don’t know, was a venerable tuxedo that has been featured on Elayne’s for as long as there has been cat blogging. Like any cat approaching his second decade, he had medical issues, but they had been stabilized.

It is sad when they have to go, but they know when it’s time, and you have to respect their comfort and dignity.

Weasel Dines

[Editor: The Weasel with a fluffy tail and extended tongue was the only in focus shot I got today. For about 30 seconds I had an NCO Club of cats – stripes everywhere. Lucrezia and Lutu were in the frame with Weasel, but Lucrezia dashed off for no reason and Lutu panicked. That’s what Weasel is looking at.]

This picture demonstrates Weasel’s fluffy tail, but the camera decided to focus behind him, so I didn’t use it. Between low light and using the telephoto capabilities, focus and depth of field are problems.

Froggy has decided she doesn’t like the life of a feral and has taken up residence with the neighbor who puts his cats out on ropes. She injured a leg somehow and had crawled off to heal. He found her and took her inside. Having healed, Froggy decided she liked sleeping on a couch, and doesn’t come out any more.

Ringo is getting stronger every day, and is becoming a nuisance trying to ‘escape’ to eat kibble. The entry and exit wounds have healed well, but the jaw isn’t certain until the x-rays on the 16th. She was shot, with the round piercing her right cheek, and then exiting through her left jaw. I have calmed down enough that I will let the Sheriff handle it, rather than just leaving the perp at the curb for Waste Management to pick up. I’ve made it clear that I don’t want to know anything that isn’t absolutely necessary about it, so I don’t have to deal with the anger involved.

Fluff Goes the Weasel

Kevin Drum reports the the passing of Inkblot.

Kevin is acknowledged as the founder of Friday Cat Blogging back in 2003 when he had his own place, Calpundit. Inkblot was a pioneer of the genre.

I would like to add my condolences to Kevin, his wife, and Domino on the loss of their friend.

Ringo Update

Bogus picture!

[Editor: Ringo definitely doesn’t look like this at the moment. This is from last October, as it will be a while before she would be happy with a picture. The vet is satisfied with her progress, but the dental acrylic that is holding her broken bone in place won’t be removed for at least another month. She is gaining weight and now has the run of the bathroom, rather than spending time in the large cage. The antibiotics will be done in a couple of days, and the quantity of food is larger, but it is still liquid. The reason for the continued confinement is her preference for crunching on kibble, and she won’t be allowed to do that until the x-rays show the bone has healed.]

While I’m still slogging along with the new computer, I was tied up today with Ringo. She is at the vet’s with a broken jaw, and surgery will be required to fix it.

The vet and I have our suspicions as to how it happened, but at the moment we know she wasn’t struck by a car or in a fight with another creature.

The vet is pumping her full of antibiotics, fluids, and pain killers, to prep her for the surgery. It isn’t clear when it happened, because she was still going about her routine this morning, even though she had to be in pain. She is tough and does things her own way, if she didn’t she wouldn’t be Ringo.
