Local Results
Okaloosa County Results: Only 28.4% of registered voters could be bothered to make it to the polls, worse, only 21.5% of Democrats made the effort as compared to 34.9% of Republicans.
The big reason for Republicans to go to the polls seemed to be the primary race for School Superintendent.
Cruella de Harris received almost as many votes in her primary in this county as Charlie Crist did for governor, not a good sign, as it reflects a dissatisfaction with the party. Remember the party regulars were pitching “anyone but Harris”.
Without the Superintendent’s race and tax proposal it would have been worse. A sad commentary on democracy.

Primary Day – VOTE!
It is primary day in Florida.
If you are a registered voter, even if you are not registered in a party, get to the polls and vote. While the party members are making their selections for the general election, there are always non-partisan offices on the ballot and usually a few referendums that they want to sneak by the crowd.
If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.
Local information available at Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections.
Update: Here’s the Florida Department of State official results web site.
Update2: The Republicans have selected Charlie Crist [governor], Tom Lee [CFO], and Cruella de Harris [comedy relief]. The Democrats have selected Jim Davis [governor] and ‘Skip’ Campbell [attorney general].
Locally the sales tax referendum crashed and burned.
This was not a comfortable night for incumbents, as many lost their jobs in local races.

Her First Endorsement
Mike Thomas of The Orlando Sentinel endorses some candidates. You don’t have to be a Floridian to appreciate his logic, especially his reason for endorsing Cruella de Harris in the Republican Senate primary.

Shoveling Out the Mailbox
In the Florida Democratic primary things are starting to heat up. I just got a “hit piece” on Jim Davis that was sponsored by Florida’s Working Families, Inc.
According to The Center for Public Integrity this 527 group is funded by agribusiness, principally the citrus and sugar industries.
Knowing that Davis’s opponent, Rod Smith, is the chairman of the Florida Senate’s agriculture committee and a farmer might help people understand this piece.
The most current piece of legislation that this piece highlights is the Bankruptcy Bill [Senate bill 256, April 14, 2005]. I am not unhappy to learn that Davis voted against this bill, which FWF characterizes as a bill “limiting the amount of interest credit card companies can charge”, rather than a bill that makes it almost impossible to escape credit card companies.

The First Round Ends
Mustang Bobby and Robert C. covered the Republican debate between Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher and Attorney General Charlie Crist, with Crist considered the front runner.
And now Bark Bark Woof Woof and Interstate 4 Jamming have repeated with coverage of the Democratic debate between US Representative Jim Davis and state Senator Rod Smith, with no clear advantage in the race.
Robert C. at Interstate 4 Jamming includes links to media coverage of both debates.

Heads Up For Debates
Update: Mustang Bobby has the recap on the two Repubs each trying to prove that he is the candidate that will return Florida to the golden years of Tristán de Luna y Arellano.
Many of the Public Radio stations in Florida will be carrying the debates between the candidates for governor tonight and tomorrow.
Tonight at 7:00PM [on the Panhandle, 8:00PM in Xanth] it’s the Republican debate, and tomorrow the Democrats get their turn.

Float An Idea
Athenae makes a great point in her look at the Lamont campaign: more floats.
If I had the time and money, Jeff Miller would not go anywhere in the district without something like this following him around.
I’d probably add a few oily hand prints on the truck to go with a series of short hits:
Miller prefers:
- Corporations over Cobia
- Tar balls over Turtles
- Petroleum over Porpoises
- Natural Gas over Nature’s Grace
- Profits over Paradise
Just a few reminders of his vote on offshore drilling.

Still Not Dead
Flag of Florida
Not the Flag of Florida
Castro’s not dead. His sister says so. His sister is tied into the LOLB [Little Old Ladies in Black] network, so she’s getting better information than the Calle Ocho crowd.
[I’ve always felt the LOLB had the confessional bugged and they go to the first mass to pick up the tapes.]
