In Local News
The whole point of the Base Realignment and Closure process was to allow local community involvement in the process and to allow for planning as the Pentagon moved major units around.
Locally there were some minor losses and major increases at what everyone thought was the end of the process…except that Rummy doesn’t like playing by the rules any more than the Shrubbery.
When it was announced that the 16th Special Operation Wing was moving from Hurlburt Field to Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico, no one got upset. Hurlburt Field was getting the 1st SOW to replace the 16th, and the Special Ops guys needed a desert field for training.
Then the rumors started about the 46th Test Wing moving from Eglin AFB to Edwards AFB in California. local tv and both the Pensacola News Journal and the Northwest Florida Daily News jumped on the story.

How Bad Is The Harris Campaign?
After consideration, I think I’ll give her name to a prayer circle. She really needs help, and that is a human reaction, not a political swipe. Something is wrong and it needs to be attended to by people who care about her. She is not the person she was. At this point, she is only a threat to herself.

Panhandle Ignored, As Usual
CBS is reporting that the Senate has compromised on Gulf drilling. The compromise is to put all of the drilling rigs off the coast on the western end of the Panhandle in Area 181.
It’s okay, the people in the western Panhandle vote Republican, so they won’t mind if their tourism is screwed and the military operations have to move elsewhere, because this is for the good of oil companies.
Florida Senator Mel Martinez, the choice of the “Big Oil” White House, crafted this “compromise” to the coasts of the Eastern Time Zone. John Ellis can’t run again, so he doesn’t care.
That 125-mile zone they keep talking about is 125 miles off the coast of the Peninsula, not the coast of the state. Look at the map in the article.

Joe Roberts
This is probably the only post I’m apt to make in support of a candidate, but this is my home turf sand.
The Pensacola Beach Blogger has a three post series on Drilling Rigs off the coast and what it will mean to the Panhandle. Floridians have gotten complacent because of the ban on drilling and were caught off guard when members of our House delegation, including Jeff Miller of District 1 and Allen Boyd of District 2 voted to re-open the issue. Hopefully our Senators, Nelson and Martinez, will be able to stop this bill in the Senate, and it won’t magically re-appear in a conference committee.

Sell Out To Big Oil
Several Florida Congresscreeps have sold out the state and supported a law to open coastal waters to oil drilling. Led by Cruella de Harris’s cousin, “Howdy Doody” look-alike Adam Putnum and California’s “Pollution” Pombo, CBS reports that: House OKs End To Offshore Drilling Ban.
Of course, since this is a move that will devastate the coastal region of Florida’s first Congressional district, but not affect his income from the family agribusiness, Jeff Miller voted to pour oil all over our beaches and interfere with local military bases.
Naturally, JEB Bush thinks it’s a great idea.
Congressional Republicans – a wholly owned subsidiary of Exxon.
Update: the Pensacola Beach Blogger expresses his dissatisfaction and provides more details.
Robert C. at Interstate 4 Jamming updates his post with the names of the traitors, including one Democrat, Allen Boyd of district 2. Miller and Boyd together represent the entire coastline of the Panhandle. The pair should be boiled in oil until it reaches a tar-like consistency, at which point we can add the feathers.
Even Cruella knew better than to vote for this.

What happens when the “best man” for a job is a woman?
The Pensacola Beach Blogger found the answer in a story in the Pensacola News Journal.
You have to wonder if these people will ever grow up. The woman is over-qualified for the job, so they have to throw away all of the time and money invested so they don’t have to hire her. Pathetic.
