The Inmates Are Running The Asylum
Griff Witte of the Washington Post probably didn’t intend to make it so obvious, but his article on the election campaign, Key Israel election issue: Did war end too soon?, certainly points to the election as the main reason for the attack on Gaza.
So long as the leaders of all of the major parties in Israel delude themselves into believing that you can bomb your way to peace, there will be no peace.
Netanyahu apparently thinks that it would be a wonderful idea to attack Iran, a move that could cost the US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan major casualties. The Hedgemony encouraged this kind of foolishness, and the US had better come down hard on this, or withdraw all forces from the area.

I don’t think the major political parties in Israel are interested in bombing their way to peace. I think they’re interested in bombing their way into power. Peace would be bad for them, because they’re all too busy touting to the Israeli public, “I’m the one best able to kill darkies!” “No, I am!” “I am, I’ve killed more darkies than anybody!”. If there was peace, their whole election process would collapse for lack of any enemy to tout as being “tough” against.

I’m almost expecting to hear “We need larger showers and bigger ovens”. It is just freaky listening to them. You really have to wonder when the Israeli people will wake up to what is going on, and what it looks like to the rest of the world.
Major problem is that most sane Israelis have already left Israel for other countries, leaving behind either the insane, or those who don’t qualify for immigration because they don’t have the required education and credentials. The lunatics truly are running the asylum…
It is really sad, because most Israelis I’ve met were good people. They are all going to be blamed for what their government does.
