I’m Almost Back

Just a couple of lights to install and a slow drain but the tenant is in and I want to give him some breathing space before I finish and get over a cold.

A few things struck my fancy in the limited time I had to scan the ‘Net:

How about Mail Me to the GOP, a service that will send your ashes to the Republican official of your choice if you die as a result of their screwing around with health care.

From Australia – Opal card implanted into Sydney man Meow-Meow could be deactivated by NSW authorities:

Transport authorities in New South Wales have threatened to deactivate an Opal card that has been implanted in a Sydney man’s hand.

Sydney bio-hacker Meow-Ludo Disco Gamma Meow-Meow — his actual name — had the near-field communication (NFC) chip from an Opal card cut out and encased in a bio-compatible plastic.

An Opal card is a public transport pass.

The HMS Queen Elizabeth is Britain’s newest aircraft carrier now under going sea trials. During a media tour it was noticed that the ship apparently uses Windows XP. Well, it is better than Windows 10, I suppose.

You have a cold? Summer colds are worse than Winter ones IMO (for me anyway). I’ve had 2 winter colds (or 1 that was leaving but missed me & came back! I wish money would do that! Bah!)

keep telling you we have our share of weirdo nut cases! LOL

Saw that (XP!) I thought “Well, that carrier was a total waste of money!” *shrug*

I just finished the 2nd reinstall of my W10. In typical M$ Crap fashion, the 1st install (on a clean, wiped partition) sucked. Random crashes for no reason etc. This one seem to be behaving (ran a 4 hour stress test). I’ve concluded that Billy must have a lot of shares in Pharma companies! Pretty sure Windoze has increased sales of many drugs for hypertension, stress, lack of sleep, etc.

Fluids and Sudafed keep me going, along with an ample supply of tissues and plastic bags to dispose of the waste.

Mr Meow-Meow is certainly an interesting case. I doubt his parents did that to him, which means he spent money to annoy people and be banned from a lot of jobs.

Classic Shell had to re-install after the latest Win 10 update and I could almost hear it muttering about the M$ BS as it worked. The most aggravating part is that the ‘creators’ upgrade does nothing for me that isn’t annoying. I don’t want or use any of the ‘features’ included in the update.

I’ve been spared the Creator’s Edition so far because my big Windows gaming system is currently swapped out to the Linux hard drive (remember that it has the 2.5″ slot in the front so I can swap OS’s with just a swap of the hard drive in that slot). I’m trying to prototype a CloudStack cluster right now, but then I got stuck in networking hell because CloudStack like all private cloud software wants multiple network interfaces and the only way to provide that is VLAN’s, meaning I had to piece together how the firmware on my 24-port Quanta LB6M 10gbit switch that I scored from eBay for $225 works, then how the Dell 5524POE switch that I scored from eBay for $185 works (turns out there was a nasty little trick to VLAN routing that took me two days to figure out, and only because the Dell 6248 at work that I’m configuring for the production deployment has a slightly different command structure that made me realize how it had to be on my 5524). But it’s all working now, so tomorrow (oops, today!) I should be able to install CloudStack!

Regarding Mr. Meow-Meow, having that near-field chip implanted in my hand would certainly make things more convenient than always having to fumble for that stupid card in my wallet and hope I don’t drop it or have it stolen! But the rest of his deal? Err…

Donald Trump is the only person who could make George W. Bush look Presidential by comparison.

You actually use multimedia services on Windows, while Prime Music is the extent of my interest, so there might be something of interest to you beyond the now standard Win 10 upgrade annoyances.

It is a good thing that there are ‘standards’ that ‘allow everything to work together’, right? We would really be struggling without all of the readily available documentation that everyone provides 😈

I have a ‘thing’ about the concept of being chipped after putting up with the Shah in Iran, Franco in Spain, and the colonels in Greece.

The current White House doesn’t need a chief of staff, it needs a kindergarten teacher to teach the staff how to play with others.

iwStack/Prometeus use CloudStack. Works well now. Had a few issues @ first a few years ago. VLAN is an option for those that need it. I had one, & 2 dedicated IP’s. I have a CS partition on my server. Haven’t played with it for awhile. No real need to now.

I can’t use W10 CE. There was no update for the LTS branch. Next release apparently, sometime later this year. *shrug*

Kindergarten Teacher wouldn’t get anywhere. I doubt Trump would have paid attention if he went to Kindergarten as a child. His *inner child* is definitely in control though. It seems he’s not reached maturity yet. Never will.

Maybe I should clarify that the VLAN @ iwStack is part of a Virtual Router setup for private network that includes a dedicated VLAN, a dedicated VM for firewall, load balancer, ipsec VPN, etc. My VPN appliance here was connected to that. Worked pretty well. I have 2 TB/Mth allowance (up traffic from the server, down isn’t counted). Oh, the virtualization is KVM based.

My instance @ iwStack (which I haven’t used for some time, but costs me nothing until I use it) has 4 vCPU’s, 4GB RAM, 2 static IP’s, 20GB SAN storage (for ROOT & DATA), secondary NFS storage for ISO’s, templates, images or backups, FTP/FXP accessible automated backup storage, 1 Virtual Router, Light DDOS Protected IP’s (up to 8 Gbps or 1 millions packets per seconds protection). Still has enough credit to run for a full 10 Months or so (this setup costs about 14 EUR/Mth.) But I can reduce the RAM/vCPU & storage options to reduce that significantly. Don’t know if I’ll even use it now. Maybe I’ll donate it to someone. *shrug*

You have some impressive infrastructure available if you need it.

It is possible that a straight-laced nanny with a Scots accent might penetrate his thick skull. Trying to reason with him doesn’t work. In the end this mess is probably about the less than straight-forward financing of Trump and Kushner projects since the normal US sources dried up after bankruptcies.

By VLAN, I mean layer 2 VLAN, not a VPN. And I usually don’t have most of my infrastructure turned on, I’m usually just running the NAS, the POE switch, and the router (oops, and the WiFi bridge). I’m going to have to turn almost everything off tomorrow because we’re going to have a heat wave and it’s scheduled to reach 91F outside, and I don’t need all that gear heating up my house…

All of my at home infrastructure is eBay finds or freebies being thrown out as scrap, for the most part. The exceptions being my gaming system (built with decent components at the time) and of course my MacBook Pro and the 32″ monitor hooked to it.
