Iditarod Update – Race Day 2

flag of Norway

While Lance Mackey is currently the furtherest along the trail, the Norwegians made a big move yesterday stopping to rest just before the climb to Rainy Pass. Both Sigrid Ekran(24) and Kjetil Backen(42) stopped at mile 106 and should be moving shortly with the sunrise.

Every team pursues their own strategy when determining when and where to stop.

They have invested a lot of frostbite in their efforts and they have paid off in the past with I seem to remember two wins. There’s a lot of snow and ice between the leaders and Nome.

There’s no place like Nome. 😉

After a couple of weeks on the trail, I can almost guarantee it. I was was never so happy to get rid of anything as the snowshoes I tramped in for 50 miles in the Cascade Mountains during my standard survival training course in the Air Force, and it was a lot warmer than the Iditarod.
