Shooting Update

According to the reporting of the Charlotte Observer the “accidental” discharge of a firearm on that US Air flight pierced the cockpit wall. They have pictures.

The good news was that the aircraft was in descent and at 8,000 feet when the weapon was fired, so there was no problem with pressure loss.

As for the expert who doubts a single round could bring down the aircraft – what happens if it hits a control computer, or the wiring?

Understand that I have a personal aversion to bullets penetrating aircraft. It is not a pleasant experience.

bullets and airplanes don’t mix well.

For some reason, I was under the impression that the purpose of all of the cattle herding that goes on at airports these days was to keep weapons off of airplanes.

Somehow I missed this story yesterday. This justs adds to my aversion to flying anywhere unless absolutely necessary. Guns on aircraft are just a bad idea no matter who carries the gun on the plane.

The entire experience of traveling by air has devolved into a 3rd world adventure, maybe worse. I remember when air travel was civilized, but I digress.

The minimum qualification for carrying a concealed weapon is doing it safely, but the more important is knowing when to use it. If these people can’t carry them safely, how good were the classes on when to use it?

Gives a whole new meaning to the airmen’s idiom “Shooting the approach” 😉

As well as “touch and go” which we also called “crashes and dashes”.
