Breathtaking.

I expect that NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day will be displaying more of these in the coming weeks.

They just put out the first batch. Makes you feel cheated by the blur of white lights that was always portrayed as space. There is a lot of color out there, and now we will be seeing more of it. I wish I didn’t have the limitation on the site of 500 pixels in the column because some of them really require the whole screen to do them justice.

your timing, and hubble’s, is excellent. i was just getting tired of my computer’s latest wallpaper.

Simply breathtaking.

Thank you for sharing. I needed this today.

I think we all need something, and listening to that speech wasn’t it.

The first word that came to my mind (as a couple other commenters) “Breathtaking!”

The money on the repair was well spent for the beauty, and the scientific information can be obtained no other way.

This is “public art” at its best.

What do you think, Bryan? Two galaxies colliding or one galaxy acting like the Democratic Party and splitting apart over health care reform?

9 Bryan { 09.10.09 at 2:09 pm }

It seems to be a single galaxy, but it’s too bad we can’t get a picture from a another angle to see what is going on.

Update: I should have used a NASA source – it’s a nebula, not a galaxy. Mea culpa.

No matter what angle you view the Democratic Party it has become a waste of my time and effort. After Obama’s crew disenfranchised me in the primary. I left, so I couldn’t care less what they do.

Yaaaaaay! Hubble is back.

It is a delight to see the images Hubble sends back to us. And now it’s going to be even better.

It is nice to see something I think we should should be spending money on, for a change.

12 Kryten42 { 09.11.09 at 12:43 am }

Some good news for a change indeed!! 😀

The Cosmos is truly an awesome place.

And the spec we inhabit will most likely become our galaxy’s cesspit. I wonder of someone *out there* will come hunt whoever is left here to present the cleaning bill for messing up the neighborhood? 😉 LOL

That hyperspace-bypass is looking like a good plan. 👿

13 Bryan { 09.11.09 at 1:07 am }

We’ll probably get swallowed by something coming in from a blind spot. There are several “free range” galaxies that seem to do a lot of that sort of thing, but there will be great pictures of it happening.

14 LadyMin { 09.11.09 at 2:03 pm }

No no no… hyperspace-bypass won’t be our demise. We’ve been saved by the early development of the Infinite Improbability Drive. 😉

That must be why Addison Graves Wilson, Sr. will elected President in 2012, that’s about as improbable as it gets.

16 hipparchia { 09.11.09 at 10:17 pm }

mmmmmm… those zucchini muffins sound delicious. guess what i’m going to do this weekend….

Feed cats and clean litter boxes, like every other cat owner.

Well, you might make some zucchini muffins, after the cats’ needs have been dealt with.

18 LadyMin { 09.12.09 at 12:24 am }

I just picked more zucchini tonight. That means another zucchini bread to take to the folks at work.

19 Bryan { 09.12.09 at 12:30 am }

That’s a nice arrangement for them – they don’t have to grow the zucchini or do any baking, and they still get zucchini bread.

better to mix them and get them baking before handling the cat litter. which means a reward of fresh-baked muffins waiting for me shortly after taking care of all the cat stuff.

That would work, if they don’t “help” with either operation.

22 Moi { 09.12.09 at 8:03 pm }

All I can say is….wow…

23 Bryan { 09.12.09 at 8:32 pm }

Yep, I know what you mean.

24 hipparchia { 09.12.09 at 8:40 pm }

the only way to avoid ‘help’ is to turn on the vacuum cleaner. it’s the only household chore that’s universally loathed here at chez hipparchia.
.-= last blog ..I’ve done that =-.

25 Bryan { 09.12.09 at 9:31 pm }

I can only use the vacuum when Ringo is outside. While the other 5 evaporate, Ringo considers it her solemn duty to attack the floor attachment. You can’t move it with her on top.

26 hipparchia { 09.12.09 at 10:02 pm }

wow, i’m in awe of ringo!

even curmudgeon cat, for all his willingness to attack cars and rottweilers and would-be burglars, leaves the room when i bring out the vacuum cleaner.

27 Bryan { 09.12.09 at 10:25 pm }

Ringo is the queen of cat fits. I know it’s time to encourage her to go outside when she starts growling at her tail, because was major explosion is coming that includes chasing her tail.

She regards the vacuum cleaner with the same ferocity as her apparently evil tail.
