Not In The Onion, OK

It’s via Atrios, but this is from the Wall Street Journal: Tea Party Protesters Protest D.C. Metro Service

Rep. Kevin Brady called for a government investigation into whether the government-run subway system adequately prepared for this weekend’s rally to protest government spending and government services.

I checked and Kevin Brady is listed as (R TX 08).

He complained that because the government funded subway system didn’t put on extra trains on the weekend to accommodate this anti-government protest some people had to use the taxicabs that are owned and operated by private enterprise.

I think my mind just went into a logic lock. These people are totally FUBAR.

I wasted my time and money on political science courses – I should have gone with abnormal psychology.

Update: as noted by Fallenmonk in comments, Rep. Brady was one of those who voted against the stimulus money to enable DC Metro to replace aging cars and improve service.

In any reasonable estimate of the contents of his head, Brady has always been more mouth than brain. But this is the first time I can remember his providing any amusement. Thanks, Bryan; your irony sensor is in fine working order.

It’s been many years since I’ve been to DC, but I don’t remember Metro putting on “extra trains” for much of anything. And the system worked well enough for me, all except for the time I tried to go to a church in a dirt-poor neighborhood where a friend and I were to provide the music one Sunday… it didn’t go within miles of there.

Kevin seems to have forgotten: DC isn’t Houston, which has only one line; in Washington, there’s some actual scheduling to be done if you want to add trains.

Rather reminds me of the christianist blog posting I read where the author went on a long-winded rant about how all American Muslims should be denied their human rights and religious freedom, and kicked out of the USA because Islam is allegedly anti-human rights, anti-religious freedom, and is, therefor, un-American.

Christians are none of those things, right?

Go figure, ’cause I don’t get it.

I don’t think these folks listen to what they are actually saying. And they wouldn’t get it if someone pointed it out to them.

And I bet they have no sense of humor either. But I enjoyed the stupidity of this one! 😆

It is even more twisted than it first appears. Being a good Republican Rep. Brady was one of the GOP herd that voted against the stimulus bill earlier in the year that would have given the DC Metro millions to improve service.

Yep, Fallenmonk, I need to add that to the post because I just checked and the stimulus money was needed to update and replace the aging fleet of cars, as was revealed in the crash earlier this year.

They are already having a hard time maintaining their current service with their present funding and aging rail stock.

Is this one of the guys who was passing out signs that said “Keep your government hands off my Medicare”? ROFL!

It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest, Badtux.

Since he always votes against their funding, I’m sure the Metro will show all of the concern his complaint deserves.
