Isn’t That Special?

From the Houston Chronicle energy blog: Republican senators call oil spill hearing a distraction

“The people testifying today at all these hearings should be spending their valuable time (focused on) the response effort,” said Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla.

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., warned that the hearings are a distraction from engineers’ work in Houston and command centers along the coast to devise strategies for stanching the flow of an estimated 5,000 barrels of oil daily from crumpled pipe about a mile underwater.

“Having this and many other hearings on Capitol Hill while there is still an ongoing disaster in the Gulf — while the flow is unabated (and with) 5,000 barrels a day continuing to come up — I think is a mistake,” Vitter said.

So, what are the odds that any of the people testifying knows which side of the car their gas filler cap is on, much less how to cap a gusher.

There is this wonderful invention called the telephone that can be used if someone really needed to get in contact with them. Dick Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton, where is his brilliant idea to stop the oil? How about the Shrubbery?

…Diaper Dave is getting to be almost embarrassing in his “positioning’. He perfectly understands that his thoughts are actually an intentional form of distraction all by its own self. The clear hope of Vitter and all the other advocates of “Drill, Baby, Drill” is that the usual Republican tactic of distraction in the face of usual Democratic timorousness will take all of our eyes off the ball so that We The People won’t come to terms with the real issues and consequences that off-shore oil exploration present…

There isn’t a single one of these ‘guests’ of the Congressional and Federal inquiries who actually matters as far as stopping the leaks is concerned.
Diaper Dave knows that, but he can’t help himself, because twisted efforts at distraction to muddy the narrative is what he and his people do…

Thinking back on a few crises I’ve been involved in, I don’t remember one instance when anyone said: “Wow, we really need some staff weenie from headquarters to tell us what to do.”

The last thing any of the drilling advocates really want to come out is the truth – deepwater drilling is inherently dangerous and spills like this are going to happen. They don’t want people to understand how much oil is spilled as a result of broken pipes from hurricanes in the Gulf.

Off shore drilling is dirty and dangerous. We would be better off using less oil than drilling for more.

I want to know what in hell an MBA has to do with drilling wells? The only oil those guys have had on their hands was olive oil from a salad.

But the real name of the GOP is “Distraction-Я-Us” … why would you expect them to reveal the truth about offshore drilling, or anything else profitable to their corporate sponsors but hazardous to the environment?

I don’t expect them to tell the truth because most of them aren’t smart enough to understand anything that complex. They learn their lines and repeat them in a loop, like a pre-K Christmas pageant.

Repub Senators are easy to grow, requiring water a couple of times a week and the soil in Congress is rich in organic fertilizer. You just have to avoid direct sunlight or they wilt.

I would have said that the only oil they have on their hands is… Vaseline. 😛

Well, it’s petroleum based. But, maybe I shouldn’t go there… ( I mean, I’ve long suspected it’s why many GOP members own lot’s of oil interests. They probably get a truckload of Vaseline thrown in for free). they must use a hell of a lot of it! I’m kinda surprised they haven’t passed laws to have free dispensers at Airport and College toilets! 😈

I bet it’s why GOPs have so many private closed-door meetings! LMAO

Now now, Kryten. Those nubile young boys in those GOP closed-door meetings are just there to “lift their luggage”, doncha know? 😛
.-= last blog ..Next talking point: "Gulf oil spill caused by government!" =-.

You guys shouldn’t be stereotyping the GOP. I’m sure with a little effort you could find one or two who aren’t total perverts, although we are still waiting for them to pass the “bestiality” legislation in Florida. You have to wonder if they are concerned with annoying their donors.

10 Kryten42 { 05.12.10 at 9:11 pm }

It’s easy to find the ones who aren’t *total* perverts. They are the ones who resign or get kicked out. After all, the total perverts get to keep their GOP membership no matter what they get caught doing! I guess some of the younger members find the regular closed-door circle jerk whilst singing the National anthem sessions a bit much to swallow. 😈

LMAO

Hey, Bryan, you could always compose a musical comedy… “The Bestial Little Whorehouse in Florida”!

I’m not sure that a musical based in Mossy Head would sell, but but you can buy a T-shirt.

I assume they objected to the little flags, Kryten.
