The New Boss

Friday Cat Blogging

What’s that?

[Editor: … definitely not the same as the old boss. Tonto has taken over since her sister passed a while back, but most of the group are not happy about it. She is not a nice a cat. When weaning kittens she really lets them know they are on their own and she wants nothing more to do with them. I have no idea what she was reacting to, possibly a noise, but she was prepared to deal with it forcibly.]

So does Tonto exemplify the old saying, “all that litters is not old”?

That is really bad, Steve.

One tough broad.

And Steve, I still laughed… well.. snorted really.

Maybe a sprinkling of cat nip in her bowl, and a few plants around in the yard would make her more amicable. Catmint is really easy to grow.

Gah I see Steve’s puns have not improved!

Tonto looks like (and sounds like!) one mean mother

She is that, Ellroon, especially without her sister.

Ame, I grew cat nip for years, but the local ferals ignore it as do my inside cats. I end up giving it to other people. I grow it right by that food dish and it is unmolested.

It isn’t quite time to put in the petunias and whatever for the spring. We should have at least one more cold spell around Easter.

She isn’t Ted-class, Jams, but then, no other cat is.

Bryan, that pun is a paltry work-alike of the famous “Show this bold Prussian that praises slaughter, slaughter brings rout” which, by removing the first letter of every word, becomes “How his old Russian hat raises laughter, laughter rings out.”

I did not know that feral cats were not attracted to the herb. My Manx cats used to roll around in it they loved it so much

It’s genetics, Ame. Some cats respond to catnip, some don’t, depending upon whether they have a gene that creates a receptor for it. The gene pool of his particular ferals apparently doesn’t have that gene. That’s not true for all ferals everywhere though.

It’s just this crew, Ame. It must be genetic, because they are all related, even my indoor cats.

My neighbors have cats that go crazy over it, but mine ignore it.

i once accused bryan of exporting some of his ferals to my neck of the woods, because mine [the first batch, anyway] all came out looking a lot like his…. just sayin….

but yes, the catnip attraction is genetic, and mine, every single one of them, are all gonzo nutso over catnip, so i guess i’ll have to find somebody else to blame.

even the fluffy black dog likes catnip toys.

if they don’t like catnip, you can always try valerian and honeysuckle.

Those white whiskers are certainly outstanding! Pretty kitty! I guess there’s always a top cat around, no matter where you go.

Oh, yeah, speaking of catnip, my cats are not very attracted to it. Sgt Mango is probably the one who likes it best, and he can take it or leave it. Interesting that none of my 5 are kin to each other except that I’m their mom.

Excuse me, but I don’t want to encourage drug use among the ferals, no matter how much I like honeysuckle. I do wish I had some success with lavender as it is supposed to be a natural flea bane. This crowd ignores the catnip and knocks over the lavender.
