Some people’s problems with tropical weather are external. Some people’s problems are in Nate.
For Texas, the innate problem in Nate is the damn dry air. It wants to head north-northwest and dump all over you guys, but it can’t get passed that block.
Damn, we surely could use some rain. The fires aren’t close to Our House… yet. I was relieved to read that the Texas Renaissance Festival, which was a significant place in my past whether I liked it or not, has so far been spared the fires near (in?) Magnolia. I can smell the smoke in Houston; it literally makes me slightly nauseous. About 1500 Texas homes have been consumed so far. I’ve never seen it like this in my life… this is scary. Bring on the tropical weather… please!
I keep thinking of Manuel de Falla’s Ritual Fire Dance from El Amor Brujo. In my youth I could actually, kinda-sorta, play the piano solo version of that piece. For sheer technique, there’s Artur Rubenstein, but the favored recording in our household in my young years was the much more subtle rendition of Jose Iturbi. It’s all good, as they say… as long as the actual fire stays far away from me.
I have been dealing with some ‘Real Life’ stuff the last few days, and between that and three tropical cyclones, I haven’t had a lot of time to write. I have been watching the fires using the satellites, and the winds that were generated by Lee have been the prime factor.
Ah, yes, the Fire Dance – one of the standards in any collection…
