Apple Is Really Annoying

Every time Apple updates iOS or iPadOS it turns on Bluetooth. Bluetooth is a broadcasting transceiver which is both a security risk and a battery vampire. The cell companies can already track you so there is no need to announce your presence to every other smartphone user around you. If you spent a decade answering the phones at work with “This an unclassified line.”, you are conscious of security risks.

In other news my camellia bush is blooming about six weeks early.

Oh, that really is irritating. I guess I wasn’t aware. I need to make sure bluetooth is turned off! Thank you!

I haven’t seen it written down anywhere. I use Bluetooth to play my music in the car, but I have always turned it off when I got home. Then I started noticing that it would turn on by itself, so I started tracking it and discovered it got turned on every time there was an up date. It really eats your battery time.

I just broke down and purchase a cell phone after going through 2 weeks of no phone at all, and no internet (phoneco was trying to “upgrade” my service). I was rather surprised (not to mention, alarmed) when Flippy (as I call it) started ringing my Alexa wake up alarm, and couldn’t immediately figure out how to turn it off. I discovered that bluetooth was enabled on the phone and was chatting with my tablet. I was able to turn it off, but I’m wondering how I could actually make that function useful

First you need the Alexa app for your phone, then you can control Alexa from the phone. The phone and Alexa are probably both on the same WiFi network, so you can still control Alexa without turning Bluetooth on. If you want to use your Echo or Dot as a speaker for your phone Bluetooth is better than WiFi, but I normally let Alexa play directly without tying up the phone. I use Pandora and Amazon Prime for music. I use Bluetooth in the car as I have a Bluetooth/FM transmitter that broadcasts the music on my phone to the car’s audio system. I’m not a fan of any of the local radio stations.

I don’t know how “useful” it is, but it is convenient.

I wonder if that has anything to do with my wife hammered her Ipad. She didn’t have the strength to break it but the screen has about 5 very interesting star-burst patterns

Is there a Luddite support group anywhere? She’s eying my Lenovo M10 now.

Apple upgrades affect people that way. The only Luddite group I’m aware of is the GOP, but I assume you want an anti-Luddite group. You might try a Society of Friends meeting house as Quakers are generally non-violent, Richard Nixon being a notable exception.
