OT: Hi Bryan (and all)
I’m using the Library computer/internet, and have just about used up my hour, so this will be brief.
We moved OK (though it has caused me some problems), Just found out this morning that our ISP can’r provide ADSL to the house as we are too far from the exchange, whichI expected and told my housemate). We *may* be able to get ADSL1, but there are not many ADSL1 providers any more. Anyway, I just grabbed a list of them and will start calling and see what they can do. Telstra can provide a service, but will cost $110/mth for data (50GB) + $30/mth phone rental + call’s and have to have a 24 mth contract. That’s not happeneing.
So, if I can’t get a half decent Internet, I will be looking for yet another place to live (without my current housemate). Oh… and it’s my Birthday. happy Birthday to me! typical.
OK, hope everyone is well. Cya whenever. *shrug* 🙂
OT: ‘Bozhe Moi’, that is an absurd rate, even in South Fundistan they only nick you $100 for their TV/Internet/Phone package and pricing is based on bandwidth, not data.
Have a Happy Birthday anyway.
yeah, housemates can be a real pain, but otherwise, happy birthday, kryten!
I think the problem, Hipparchia, is that the housemate is tired of moving, and Kryten needs bandwidth for work. Hell, I would do almost anything to avoid moving again.
Hell, I would do almost anything to avoid moving again.
me too! but that’s also how i feel about housemates – i would do almost anything to avoid having one again. 😛
That’s a separate issue, but I agree with you.
I agree also! 👿
*sigh* My housemate’s problem is the same as far too many people. Only consider their own selves. Anyway… She’s going to visit her daughter & grandkids for 4 days, so I will get some peace at least. That will be nice, before I reach the end of my rope and do something others may regret.
Unfortunately I don’t have the income now to be independant. But I have started looking for a new place to share with someone hopefully sane.
So, I may have found an ISP with a decent ADSL1/VoIP service (they have 2 levels, 1.5 mbps & 8mbps) I won’t know which (if any) I can get until they do the provisioning tests, hopefully sometime next week, but I should at least be able to get 1.5 mbps… back to the stone age again. Oh well… Fingers crossed! 😉
If I move back to one of the new housing estates being built in Melb. I can get on the NBN Fiber deal. Can get upto 100Mbps/40Mbps unlimited for around $160/mth. (lowest is 20Mbps/4Mbps unlimited for about $60). Where I am now won’t get the NBN for 3 or 4 years (assuming it’s not cancelled etc.) I think the current Gov has now proven it’s possibly the most incompetent in Aus history. What an achievement! *sigh*
Anyway, I have not been idle. I’ve been working on my Drupal based site and have a blog setup on my PC. One day, I may even get it online!
Some other news is that I have apllied for a job at a great huge old second hand book store here! Been established over 100 years and has over 22,000 different titles! Woohoo! Job heaven! 😀 😉 I don’t know if I’ve mentioned, but I was once a collector of books and manuscripts, including rare editions, and was a member of the Folio Society. I once had over 1,200 books in my posession. 🙂 I know a lot of the biographies and hostories etc. Basically, I visited this place today and got chatting with the owner. He asked me to drop in my Resume tomorrow. Anyway, we’ll see what happens.
Thanks friends for the Birthday wishes! 😀
ttyl! 😉
PS. I’m at the Library again! Free internet! 😆
Life at 1.5 isn’t all that bad, Kryten. It’s what you get around here for $100, because to get anything you have to lease the ‘package’, whether you want it or not.
Yes, it is hard to accommodate the needs of different people, which is why 1 in 2 US marriages end in divorce. Living together requires constant compromises, and sooner or later, there will be something for which no compromise can be found.
Well, good luck on the search, Kryten.
