Local Politics

Some days you have to wonder if anyone is paying attention or connecting the dots. Ray Sansom is obviously political toast, even if he isn’t convicted, so the Local Puppy Trainer starts looking for possible replacements: Who’ll run to replace Sansom? Here are some names:

[Kabe] Woods said one of his potential rivals, Matt Gaetz, an attorney and son of state Sen. Don Gaetz, would probably be untouchable on the fund-raising side of a campaign.

“He’ll get more money overnight than I’ll be able to raise in two years. I know that’s what’s going to happen,” Woods said.

“It’s a situation where he’s a young man with an overwhelming amount of resources, a name and a father in a power position. He will bring a lot of backing and a lot of resources and is capable of sweeping just about any candidate off the slate.

“Except me.”

The younger Gaetz – like Woods, a Republican – does seem to be the (excuse the pun) elephant in the room when the District 4 race of 2010 comes up.

His father will likely be under consideration for the state Senate presidency by the time the election is held and Matt Gaetz’s statewide connections, through Don Gaetz and his work for state Rep. Ray Sansom as a legislative aide, are impressive.

Impressive? He worked for the guy who is under indictment for his actions and that makes him impressive?

But Gaetz has another connection that explains the assumption on his ability to raise money: Odom-college lease appears dead

NICEVILLE – The ill-fated idea of putting a state-funded college facility/EOC on Jay Odom’s Destin Jet property at Destin Airport appeared dead Tuesday.

Odom agreed to let Northwest Florida State College out of its lease and signed documents clearing the way for it to do so, according to attorney Matt Gaetz, who represented Odom in executing the contract.

“Mr. Odom has executed the cancellation and the paperwork is in the possession of the county,” Gaetz said Tuesday afternoon.

Matt Gaetz has connections to everyone involved in this $6 million con job, and people think that he is the leading candidate to restore confidence in our local officials? Is Teddy the Wonder Lizard unable to run? Are their no homeless drunks at the Rescue Mission? There has to be someone in the county who is retired and wouldn’t object to working 60 days a year, has the money to supplement the paltry $27K that we pay representatives and senators in this state, and has no connection to any of the people involved in any of the local wave of criminal offenses. Until we tell the good ol’ boys to get lost, we get what we deserve, a bunch of crooks.

You have the answer in your quote above, how about my husband, Kabe Woods? He is not connected to the current people in office, has good values and is qualified and wants the job. Find out more about him and donate to his campaign at http://electkabe.com

It’s way early for me to make a positive decision, Mrs. Woods, but I can sure see who I don’t want, and why.

Guilt by association never works. Sure, Matt worked for Ray – but we all believed that Ray was an honest public servant.

Also, the fact that he is a lawyer who cancelled a lease for Jay Odom does not mean that he did anything wrong. This stuff is bogus.

I’ll vote for the person who can make things happen for our area. From what I’ve seen so far, that person is Matt Gaetz.

Excuse me, Sarah, but Ray, Richburg, and Odom are actually being prosecuted for their association.

Ray worked for Don Gaetz for years which would be the main reason Matt got hired.

The question isn’t whether out local rep gets things done, Ray got a lot of things done. The question is who is likely to benefit?

If voters continue to elect people from the same small group of friends and associates, the friends and associates are the ones who are going to prosper.

Actually, the others you mentioned are being prosecuted for their ACTS – not their association. What has Matt done illegal? Answer – nothing.

Also, its clear that you have not met Matt. He’s really smart. Thats why Ray hired him. Its also why he is representing Okaloosa County to save the F-35. That seems to be going fairly well for him – and well for our community.

Sarah, I knew Ray when he was an honest man. I have no interest in dealing with any of the business as usual crowd in this county ever again.

You want to vote for a Gaetz, that’s your choice. Don’t expect me to go along with it because it isn’t going to happen. We need new people who are connected to our current mess.

The F-35 was going to be based here regardless. To stop it would have required an objection during the BRAC process and it didn’t happen.

If Val-P wants to keep it up, they can be the proud recipients of a sound fence on the border between the town and the base. They won’t like the result, but they don’t get to decide national defense policy.
