my little ferals are slowly becoming a tad more domesticated. there’s only 1 untouchable remaining, though i’d have trouble picking up and carrying, or giving medicine to, or heavens, giving baths to, the other [former] untouchables.
i’m slowly winning them over with food and brushes. cats cannot resist brushes. this one for instance would like to go outside and never come back [she stares out the window constantly, and not in that ‘just watching the world go by’ way either], except that she’s also the first one at the food dish and oh my that brush feels good!
Ringo is my only true feral and she spends all of her time outdoors these days, mostly on the roof, but if she sees me she heads over to get her ears scratched.
these are my 2.5 ferals, in order even: tiger cat on the right being the wildest, and mom cat on the left allowing me to pet her most often [she also hangs out close by to help with the blogging sometimes. patches cat is somewhere in between them on the wildness continuum.
i’ve even picked her [momcat] up a few times without suffering any consequences, and managed by sheer good luck to stuff her into a carrier and cart her off to the vet for that all-important operation, but any medication that couldn’t be hidden in food would likely go ungiven. the other 2 haven’t made that trip yet. i can lure them into carriers with food, but then they can’t get operated on [or else they have to stay in the carriers overnight with no food, water, or bathroom facilities, something i’m not willing to do to them].
I have a selection of cages, including the cage my Mother had for her poodle, which is where they spend the “no food” time because it is large enough for a water bowl and a small litter box and it is easy to transfer then to the carrier without getting chewed.
I use puppy training pads, which are like disposable diapers in the bottom of the carrier, since the vet ditched a couple of the towels I used to use.
That crew is like a study in grey scale or shades and tints.
A friend of mine used to say he worked for the “feral government,” but like Bob above, he seemed mighty domesticated to me…
i bought a pack of puppy training pads awhile back thinking i might try them [i’ve got to collect the cats directly in carriers, no extra cages]. i might still try that.
tiger cat has a few [not many] cream/tan shades in her fur, but curmudgeon cat is really the only non-grayscale cat here.

Yeah, Steve, the health care and retirement benefits are a terrible thing to have in a secure job. It must be terrible to have to live with those. 😈
Your “blue” momma cat could be carrying genes for all of the cat colors, and could have kittens of any color depending on the “father”.
The puppy pads work, but be careful removing them. 😉
well, we had, at the time in question, 3 dadcats in the neighborhood — one black manx, one the spitting image of patches cat, and one the spitting image of tiger cat.
i’m sure the puppy pads work, but i won’t have to be careful removing them, as this crew are all champion shredders.

That’s really a cute picture and notation. I don’t think my kitties would do very well out in a tent. They’d probably run away.
I would say that momma cat didn’t want to disappoint her fan club, based on results.
If they are shredders, you’ll need rubber gloves and an outside hose.
Actully, OWL, the ferals around here would move in if it got wet or cold, as they do with the two dog houses that I have reclaimed and left out for them.
Surely, Sergeant Mango would feel at home.
