ENOUGH!!!

funny pictures of cats with captions

While I accept the possibility that there is some underlying reason for married Southern politicians to become involved with women from Argentina, I have zero interest in being pressured into reading about it, nor in having it be the single most important story on what purport to be news programs. The gossip belongs on Divorce Court, not the evening news.

I don’t give a rat’s patoot about other people’s sexual activity. I already know that Republicans are hypocrites, so this isn’t news. I didn’t care when it was Democrat Wilbur Mills, so why would I care if it’s Republican Mark Sanford? Aren’t there several wars going on? Is the economy no longer in the tank? Was everyone suddenly granted health care? Has climate change been halted? Is there nothing else newsworthy in the world?

Oh, but it’s so much easier to make fun and puns about this two-timing tangoing than it is to wrap one’s journalist brain around the intricacies and details required when writing about war and healthcare fiascos.

I’m sure the Iranians in Tehran protesting for the right of their vote to be counted are collectively thinking…”crap…the Americans are having a bright shiny key look away moment. We’ve jumped the news cycle shark.” I am sure they are more aware of our Country’s lack of attention and hunger for salatious sex scandals than most of our citizenry is.

This is something that is the natural prey of the snark sites and the gossip shows. It is a story that the media could use to show they are professionals and “adults”.

They could at least wait until they find out who paid for the air fare, because if it was the state, it is a very valid story about private use of public funds during hard times by a “fiscal conservative”.

I had dinner at my Mother’s and she is crocheting baby blankets for a local volunteer agency, so she had the TV on, trying to get some news. It was all about this single issue.

that’s got to be one of the best lolcats evah, both that face and the caption.

i’m against repression generally, in fact, i’m all for frank and open discussion of even taboo topics, but sometimes i really do wish were back in the bad old days when people didn’t talk about s-e-x.

Good for you mom crocheting baby blankets! Sorry that you two had to sit through wall to wall coverage of this on the TeeVee though…I haven’t been watching…I’m housesitting for a friend who does not own a boobtube.

I think I’ve had my fill of it though…onto more food recalls (This time alfalfa sprouts from California) and a Senate report that says speculators drove up the price of wheat.

…yes, Bryan, there is apparently something at least as important going on the in the world. The White House allowed a blogger into the building for yesterday’s presidential presser to ask a question posed by an Iranian citizen, and the only reason that this particular bit of perfidy isn’t the lead story tonight is because another ‘family values’ Republican can’t keep his pants zipped…

Oddly enough, there seems to be no word on car bombs in Baghdad or protests in the streets of Tehran…

I’m not asking for suppression, Hipparchia, just move it over to the Adultery Channel [there must be one, there’s a cable channel for nearly everything else].

The thing is, Jill, my Mother kept saying, “oh they’ll move on in minute”, but they didn’t. I think I saw the ghost on Dan Rather on with the bubble-headed bleach blond [Matthews?] to discuss this.

This is one of the reasons I don’t watch TV.

Oh, no, Jack, not a blogger desecrating the sanctity of a Presidential press conference?!

I would suspect that the name, Gannon, doesn’t ring any bells with the media.

i know you’re not. i, otoh, am [asking for suppression].

i’ve got no problem if people want to talk about their own [well, up to a point] but i’d like for it to become socially unacceptable talk about somebody else’s sex life.

Ah, well, I generally file that as “None Of My Business” along with a number of other issues that shouldn’t be issues because they are private matters. I have a high threshold for what constitutes a “public concern”, and consensual sex between or among consenting adults doesn’t even come close.

When my wife called me today, she asked what was so important about the SC Governor that he was all over her internet start-up page…she was furious when I explained it to her. “This isn’t news; it isn’t even our business what this clown does.”

Like you, this is one of the many reasons we no longer watch television.

Well I’ve been listening to radio all day…it’s all over the radio, too…but then most get back to the healthcare issue after having their chuckles.

Ooooh, look over there at the (sex) kitten!

We used to say that no news is good news. Well, now, if you want no news, all you have to do is turn on the TV.

First off Southern evangelicals have the highest divorce rate in the country, so it is not a surprise to anyone who lives down here. It’s almost to the point of handing the newly baptized the card of a divorce lawyer, so it is hardly news.

Secondly, they don’t even bother to look at the facts of the gossip they are promoting. The bubble-headed bleach blond says “at least he didn’t have his wife there to embarrass her.” Given that she had thrown him out a few weeks ago, it was highly unlikely she would have showed up, if asked, and that’s why she didn’t know what he was doing when asked about his whereabouts earlier.

The whole concept behind the 24-7 news channels is to provide up-to-the-minute news. Breaking the pattern to discuss celebrity gossip is one of the reasons that the public is so ill-informed. They could at least put up an occasional map to show people where South Carolina and Argentina are located – that would at least have some educational value.

If it had been a dead boy or girl, or livestock, maybe there would be a story there. An adulterous affair? Yawn. Something for the pages of the National Enquirer, not for the evening news.

Besides, considering the behavior of most of these men, shouldn’t they be accused of adolescentery?

16 Bryan { 06.25.09 at 8:52 pm }

Actually, Badtux, it would depend on the type of livestock. In Florida goats weren’t enough to get a law against bestiality passed.
