Can They Take A Hint?

Digby comments on the DKos weekly tracking poll.

The short form is that Obama and the Dems in Congress are seeing lower favorable numbers this week. The news is that the loss of support is among Democrats.

My Mother had the Bubble-headed bleach blond on tonight, and one of the last segments featured Willie Brown, now former San Francisco mayor, but for years the speaker of the California assembly, and a very canny politician. They call the video clip “Selling health care reform: What went wrong?”, and while they say they have transcripts, it seems to be a matter of when they feel like it.

Mr. Brown says that Obama only really wants to reform the current system, and isn’t really concerned with the uninsured. It came out not as a complaint, but more like, everyone knows that Obama isn’t a liberal.

So, they aren’t “reaching for the stars” [single payer], they aren’t even interested in the “low hanging fruit” [public option], they are only interested in tweaking the existing system for the “middle class”, and probably mucking about with Medicare and Medicaid.

If Willie Brown in right, the Democrats can expect to join the GOP on the sidelines as a minority party. Harry Reid faces election in 2010. Just a thought.

Gavin Newsom is the Mayor of SF now. Hizhonor Mayor Willie is former Mayor…but still things he is.

Willie Brown is one to be reckoned with in terms of political “gut checks.” He lives and breathes politics. He knows what he’s talking about. You may not like him, but peeps do give him r-e-s-p-e-c-t.

I feel for Obama, because I think this debacle has taught him that bipartisanship is easy said, hard done. The fault lines are drawn too deeply and selling this bill has been an ugly reminder of the roots of ignorance, self-interest, and hypocrisy in the American psyche.

Obama is getting what he asked for when he ran. If you actually look at his record, he has more in common with Olympia Snow than Ted Kennedy.

At this point I think he is getting exactly what he wants, the Max Baucus bill and no more. Liberals are being used, not supported by this administration.

Oh.. my.. yes they are! I could have told them that last year.

Obama is too smart a guy to believe that he can actually get a compromise out of any of the GOP. So why is he still trying? He never intended to push through major changes in the system. Can’t upset those insurance and pharmaceutical companies now can we.

Follow the money. You can’t convince people to simply follow the money.

He was raised by his grandmother. What did his grandmother do? Why she was a banker. And how many committed liberal bankers are there?

What was his first job after college? Editing for a financial news service in New Your City. And how many committed liberals are there at financial news services.

There was a time when the Ivy League was a hotbed of liberals, but that time is past.

When he entered the Senate he personally chose Joe LIEberman as his mentor. He talked up Reagan all the time. How many clues does anyone need to figure it out?
