Jekyll Amendment
Since we already have to deal with the Hyde Amendment in the health care debate, I want a Jekyll Amendment that prohibits any Federal moneys being spent on treatment for “erectile dysfunction”.
I’m sick of having to delete the spam from the jerks who are selling it, or the stupid ads that my Mother complains about. I doubt the condition actually exists outside of the minds of a pharmaceutical marketing department, and the pathetic hopes of some losers.
[BTW, Hyde was the crazy one. 😈 ]

OTOH, I believe Florida suffered a similar ailment in 2000…

You’ll be happy to know that the Catholic Church can’t support health care reform because people might be able to buy insurance that would cover abortions.
If a few people spent some more time worrying about people who are born, rather than those that aren’t, this would have been dealt with quite some time ago.
Got nothing to do with *abortions* etc. Has to do with the money the church has invested in the various *health care companies*. Especially since they are about the only companies still making huge profits. You might separate the church from state… but you’ll never separate the church from money. 🙂 That story about Jesus and the moneychangers was just a joke you know. Wasn’t intended to be taken seriously. 😉 At least… not by hypocrites. 🙂
BYW… on the topic of Jekyll…
The BBC is now as bad as most producers in the USA. They had a great new series called “Jekyll”, and they killed it after the first season. B*st*rds!! We jsu saw the first season (6 episodes). was quite good and had a couple very surprising twists to the old tale! 😉
BBC – Drama – Jekylle
Oh well… another one bites the dust. 🙁
It has always bothered me how much say people who don’t pay taxes have on how those taxes get spent, while taxpayers get ignored.
If you don’t like abortions, don’t get one. I’m opposed to American public policy being made in the Vatican, a foreign country.
OT: No one has any patience anymore. It takes a bit for people to discover a program, and for a following to develop. Most of the really long run shows started small and built up a following, they didn’t start at the top.
@ Kryten42-“You might separate the church from state… but you’ll never separate the church from money.” LMAO! Ain’t that the truth?
And don’t get me started about the BBC! They reduced “Torchwood” to a mini-series (aired last month) and now I find out it’s not coming back. *pouts* They’ve also made “Dr. Who” a series of “specials” that are far below par. They killed “Life On Mars” after two seasons and an ambiguous ending. I thought the US networks were bad. (Well they are, but BBC is worse!) And I find it hard to believe it’s a money issue, with Brits paying over £100 per year for a TV license. You said it. Bastards!
Oh and @ Bryan-“If you don’t like abortions, don’t get one. I’m opposed to American public policy being made in the Vatican, a foreign country.”
Yes, and by a bunch of MEN who’ve never had sex and have limited understanding about human relationships, and how babies come about. That’s always really torqued me.
SSG, I make no assumptions about whether or not they have sex, as they take a vow of celibacy, meaning they won’t marry, not chastity, like nuns. A small point of law that most people miss.
OT: I went with the plug-in after a blizzard late last night. It was a pain, and I was incurring possible storage fees if I left them in the data base too long. So far, no problems.
You make a valid point. Regardless, those in the Vatican are not living in the real world like the rest of us, and have no business telling us how to go about things.
Re: OT-I’m glad the plugin helped! You have better things to do than delete huge queues of crap every day.
Oh, it was pointed out by a Catholic bishop who was in trouble regarding his “housekeeper”.
The Vatican has a lot in common with Oz (the one over the rainbow, not the one in Southern Hemisphere) in that reality tends to bend around the place and never intrude. I think the hats are too heavy and too tight, cutting off the blood flow to the brain.
OT: It has just been a flood this week for no know reason.
oh noes!

“Yes, and by a bunch of MEN who’ve never had sex and have limited understanding about human relationships, and how babies come about.”
Oh yes! That and MANY other hypocrisies practiced by the Catholic Church (and various and assorted other religions) annoy the hell out of me! 😉 I was a card carrying Catholic for a couple of decades. Unfortunately for the Church, I’m intelligent, normally uncompromising in my standards and… I learned to read and had high comprehension (I was told by more than one English and History teacher). Everyone I’ve known who has read the Bible with an open mind and understanding, has left the Catholic Church after realising what a greedy, hypocritical, self-deluded man-created institution it is. And many of them left very angry indeed. Sadly, there are many really good, but ultimately naive or gullible, people who give the Church power and increase it’s wealth. I only single out the Catholic Church BTW, because it’s the one I know best from experience of being raised in a very Catholic Parish and attending Catholic primary and secondary schools. I have tried other Christian denominations, and found them little, if any, better. Now, whatever I do is simply between myself and God, and the various assorted and sundry Religions can go to hell, as I am sure they will. 😉
“I think the hats are too heavy and too tight, cutting off the blood flow to the brain.”
Urrmmmm… Bryan… you KNOW they run on high-octane FAITH! NO brains are required or needed. I think they have lobotomies when they are called to work in the Vatican. Saves them having to actually think. I think most surrender their spine also. 😉 😆
OT: Yeah… I’m really annoyed at the BBC!! And I really enjoyed ‘Life on Mars too”! 🙁 Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr… Idiots! I’m expecting them to kill off “Being Human” and ‘the IT Crowd” any day now. They did put ‘The IT Crowd’ on a long hiatus, but just finished season 3. *sigh* Annnnnnd… They released the first three episodes (because it was a three parter I guess) of season 9 of Red Dwarf some months ago, but no more since! 😐 OHHHH!! And the b*st*rds killed off “Demons” too!! I was just getting into that.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! I hope all the executives get attacked by rabid, starving, dogs. Not that I want the dogs to get sick or anything. I like dog’s. 🙂
Hmmmph!! I’m mightily annoyed! (And not just because of Religion, TV shows etc).
😉
Grumble … grrrrrr… grumble… I won’t even get started on the Catholic thing. Hypocrisy… grumble… beyond civil discussion for me. Grumble. My family is Catholic. Grumble.
Henry Hyde was my CongressCritter. Good riddance. Unfortunately due to the stupidity of the Democrats in pushing Tammy Duckworth on us, Hyde’s handpicked replacement was able to take over when he retired. And he is just as bad. Sigh. The local Dems were making good progress with a grass roots candidate before the national party interfered (that would be non other than Rahm, btw).
As for television, the Beeb is getting just like US network TV. The good shows now are coming from the cable station’s own productions like HBO’s “Nurse Jackie”, FX’s “Damages” and AMC’s “Mad Men”. Excellent stuff. And I thoroughly enjoyed History Channel’s “After People”, but I don’t know anyone who watched it except for me. 🙁 I hope it comes back.
Back on the topic of pharmaceuticals, sort of, I think all those commercials for drugs for diseases we don’t know we have should be banned. That would be a start to health care reform.

Hipparchia, you shouldn’t make fun of people in lamp shades. I understand there’s a lot of wine involved.
Well, I think we can all agree that British telly should return to the standards that produced outstanding shows… like Benny Hill.
I think it’s time to put the same restrictions on prescription medication, as on hard liquor, and add those “Scooter Store” ads to the class. [My Mother complains about those more than the ED soft porn]
with all the wine i’ve ever drunk, and all the weed i’ve ever smoked, and even the other recreational drugs i’ve tried, i never once wore a lampshade.
ot, i did sorta finally write my other medicare post. it was going to be longer, with more pictures and better writing, but i was still having computer problems.
OT: I read it. I do comment occasionally over there, but try to stay out of the most passionate fights. I’ve been seeing a lot of hourglasses lately, so I’m not so sure it’s just a problem with your machine.
yeah, passion runs high sometimes. comment not needed, just wanted to make sure you saw it [stuff has been running off the front page pretty quickly lately], since i promised it, in case there was anything in there you wanted to use.
two sources i left out: some cool graphs here [from the gwb white house] and this mostly because i found it interesting that it came from here.
wherever the problem was, it was beyond annoying.
Chart 1 pretty much blows up the myth of tax cuts increasing revenue. They don’t believe it, the facts don’t support it, but they say it anyway.
