View From The Right Side Of The “Pond”
The BBC comments on American Bloggers debate British healthcare.
Basically it’s about the ignorance on display in the Investors Business Daily editorial that mentions Professor Hawkings. The writer doesn’t actually take sides in the battle, but it isn’t really necessary when the issue is whether it’s a lie or an incredible display of ignorance.
I come down on the side of a lie based on ignorance and sloth. It’s so tough typing Stephen Hawking into the search box [well, you don’t have to type the whole thing of course, because Firefox figures it out quickly and corrects your spelling].
Why is anyone surprised about what happened to the economy when this is the level of research skill present in a publication for investors?

Considering it’s investment based on ideology and *faith*… anyone who follows any adviceby groups like this deserves what they get, or don’t get as the case may be. 🙂
I have no sympathy whatever for them. Stupidity and ignorance are their own rewards.
I do however find it highly amusing when a people who barely know anything about their own country discuss another country, or person(s) in other countries, in any way.
Yes… The USA truly is the land of bliss. LMAO
They were done in by a piece of “antique” technology, the DECTalk box with the American accent that Professor Hawking insists on keeping [I’m that way about keyboards], and a total parochial attitude about the world. They think that everything important was discovered in the US despite all of the obvious evidence to the contrary. We’ve just gone through 8 years of almost no scientific research worth spit, and they expect the US to be on the leading edge? Do they even know the nationality of the large drug companies?
Britain is kicking our butts on stem cell research because of Bush, and a number of the scientists involved are from the US because they can’t do the research here without government interference.
I admit it – I’m not a nice person. I intend to wallow in the schadenfreude, and I will say “I told you so”.
I admit it – I’m not a nice person.
Hmmm… Well, if you are not a nice person, that must make me pretty much the hardest b*st*rd on the planet! 😆
Just FYI, from much personal experience, and much historical evidence over millennia… I believe the one sure bet on this World is that ideology and blind faith are more responsible for human pain and suffering than anything else. and I’d stake my life on it. I saw far more than ample evidence on my tours of Cambodia and SEA generally, the ME and various pacific islands. I saw many of them die, unfortunately only after they had caused much suffering of many innocents!
Don’t you dare shed one tear for these evil bastards, or give them any justifications whatever!! They deserve only death. They share the same morals and ideals such as Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Kim Jong-Il, Dick Cheney (and the rest of that Gang Of Perverts) and many others! These all started as little nobody’s also, whispering in the shadows, until they had enough believers and followers to act. It’s always easy to make the weak and ignorant believe anything.
Well, it’s a typically American arrogance that the residents of other countries find particularly obnoxious.

Those whose invoke the Old Testament deserve to be judged by it, no forgiveness and no forgetting. I don’t have an ounce of compassion for any of them, they have created too much “collateral damage” to even expect it. “The ends justify the means” is an excuse to be an evil bastard because the means define the end.
If you don’t like the way people live, there are still plenty of places where there are no people. Go to one of those and preach to the rocks and lizards.
I just noticed that the Cultural Revolution started on this date in 1966, another monument to human stupidity that got a lot of people killed for no purpose. Of course it was done in the name of the people, the really bad ideas always are. Funny, but no one ever asks the people what they want before starting these fits of insanity, and in the end all they get is poverty and death, which they already had is sufficient quantities, thank you very much. 😈
I keep telling these people they should stop talking about it and “go Galt”. You can’t do it with a TV reporter following you around. Go annoy the lizards while adults try to clean up this mess you’ve made.
CK, if you really want to be embarrassed as an American travel overseas and encounter an obnoxious fellow citizen in a foreign country. You will cringe for days.
Two of the world’s six largest drug makers are British, and two are Swiss. Every European country devotes a larger percentage of its GDP to healthcare R&D than the USA does, and has the innovations to prove it. The Eurozone alone out-innovates the USA in healthcare, nevermind Britain and Scandinavia which have their own innovations. These are facts, all quite easy to look up in the OECD Health Facts data book or on the WHO web site, yet the majority of Americans just wave around giant foam fingers and yell “We’re number one!” Uhm, no. Maybe in absolute terms, compared to individual nations elsewhere, but that’s just because we have 300M people and Germany has 90M people. But compared to the rest of the world as a whole? Nope. Also-rans.
– Badtux the R&D Penguin
You may not be surprised to hear that the comments about the NHS have gone down as well as a turd in a swimming pool…. The Hawking thing made me shake my head in disbelief. Are these people living on the corner of F*ck and wit?

Badtux, wait until they find out that Canada gets all of the swine flu vaccine it wants. because it’s produced in Canada, and the US sucks hind tit again because everything has been outsourced or sold to other people. We don’t make anything in this country any more, so we have to take what’s left over.
Those tax cuts were used for investments all right, but not in this country, because we don’t have anything worth investing in thanks to CEOs with MBAs who have made their profits by selling the “seed” of their industries.
I would venture that most of the “research” done by American business is market research.
When you slice away at grants to NIH, the health care research dries up and blows away. Eight years of the Hedgemony seriously damaged all areas of research.
Jams, you give them too much credit – they couldn’t find a corner, because they can’t figure out how to use a map.
