Hi Bryan. That’s pretty wild, but you make a very good point about contractors needing to be paid! If an individual (let’s say “one”) gets a reputation for not doing so, they may not get the competency they may wish for.
Trump doesn’t want to give away anything, even the very minor provision to comply with Mastodon’s license. I use WordPress, admit I use it and include logos and links to their site, to ensure I keep getting updates.
If he doesn’t comply he’s a thief, and will get even less technical support than he pays for. Working for a thief is not a good resume item for tech hires.

Texas, like most for the former Confederate states bases everything on the “Good Ol’ Boy” system. Everything is dependent on who you are related to and which families you want to be associated with. Buck the system and you can expect a burning cross in your front yard.
That bus may as well have put a note in a bottle and thrown it out the window as call the local sheriff for anything that involved Trump. I was stationed in Texas for training and the only “safe city” for non Texan military was Austin. I was stoned (actual Old Testament stoned, not drug related) in a park in San Angelo.
The standard for being hired as a LEO in any rural county was who your family was or if you were a football player in high school.

Hi Bryan. Apologies for the delay. I haven’t been online much the past couple weeks. I had a stupid accident, nothing major or vary serious. Sprained my ankle somehow and followed up with dislocating the middle knuckle on the RH middle finger! That’s a new one for me. Didn’t even know I could dislocate a finger! It causes a number or problems, that surprised me somewhat. I have to wear a support cuff in the finger that is like an elastic bandage tube with gel on the inside (made by Scholl for fingers or toes). It works well actually & supports it enough that I can use it a bit without causing pain or being uncomfortable. I have a few sprains over the decades, so I know what to do about that. It’s a lot better now, just tender whilst the tendons heal.
I agree with your comments re: TX. Like many such States, and Counties in the UK and areas here that vote LNP… They are all stuck in the past and want it back!

What they want back never existed. I remembered my grandfather responding to a comment about “the good old days”. He made it known to one and all that living in a house heated by wood, lit by kerosene lamps was no paradise. Getting up before the sun to hitch up horses to go to the nearest village to sell what was excess so you could buy what didn’t grow on the farm, was not better than getting in a car from a house with a furnace and lit by electricity. Modern medicine beat the hell out of what was available before WWII.
My Dems and your ALP need to get their act together and beat hell out of the other side before we reach a point of no return.

There are several different terms for edited history but it all boils down to lying. It makes no difference whether it is affirmatively or by omission it is still lying. The “Founding Fathers” were wealthy white assholes. You accept that and move on. What they started became what we have because people altered things to suit them. To be successful things must change or die. Stasis is death. Like living creatures, governments must evolve.
The so-called “Christians” of today don’t understand that when religion and the state are not kept separate, religion is corrupted. The state will absorb it as a means of control. The evangelical backing of Trump shows the process in action.

OT: Well, I had a fun Sun/Mon. Switched on my PC Sunday morning and heard a loud POP and the smell of something that you don’t want to smell from a Computer. PSU was dead.
Luckily, I had a spare (I always have a spare PSU, that & the Motherboard are the two most likely failure points in my experience). The PSU that died was a Corsair HX 1000i Platinum with a 10 yr warranty (4 yrs left). I sent in an RMA request. We’ll see if Corsair honors their warranty! The spare is a Thermaltake Toughpower Gold 750W. I got it when I bought the Thermaltake case on a bundle deal (was Black Friday 2015) that saved me AU$40. 🙂
I took the opportunity to strip the system to check & clean everything, reapplied thermal paste where used. It’s working better than before when I tested today. 🙂 A few degrees C cooler than before. Not really a big deal, but I don’t want to upgrade for another year or so.

Pop, as in a capacitor giving up the ghost? I used to hear that a lot with IBM-ATs when the power supplies were changed. They had caps as fuses on the power connector and if the new power supply exceeded one of the DC voltages, pop goes the cap. The Mexican PS had QC problems. Clients were not pleased.
My big box is down with either the power supply or the motherboard. I had a PS but haven’t had the time to finish installing it because of issues in the apartments and/or the owner’s lawn mowers.
Yeah, as I have had some time I’ve been cleaning filters and vacuuming dust out of the box. I didn’t get a pop, the box just refused to start. The disks and fans didn’t spin. I had a new power supply that I bought with the new motherboard but didn’t install. I’ll see what happens when I get it in place.
Scomo is getting a bit annoyed lately. He needs to retire if he can’t take the heat, or actually start governing for the benefit of the voters and taxpayers. Sadly, the Coalition is becoming a clone of the Republicans.

I used to clean my system every six months… But I’ve gotten slack the past couple years. The case has decent air filters over all the vents, that keeps most of the dust out, and I keep the airflow within the case at a positive air pressure. The Thermal Grizzly paste I use has a long life, so unlike most it doesn’t need to be reapplied every year or two.
When I checked the warranty on my Corsair PSU, I noticed the warranty has been reduced on the HX series to 7 years, not sure when that happened. That doesn’t affect me anyway. And they are retiring most of that series also, the high end Models over 650W. I suppose they want people to buy their top-of-the-line AX series. I’m awaiting the RMA paperwork & pre-paid shipping label from Corsair. I’m not in a hurry, The Thermaltake PSU is performing surprisingly well.
Oh! I did discover that my Blu-Ray burner is dead! I’m suspect that happened some time ago. Had nothing to do with the PSU dying. Not sure what happened to it. Only discovered that when I tried to read a disk yesterday. I haven’t used it for Months. I took it out of the system & put it in an external USB case I had for a CD/DVD/BR drive. It doesn’t even start up & no LED. Oh well… I got my money’s worth out of it! And I haven’t used it at all for over a year, and rarely for a couple years before that. 🤷♂️

I try not to go overboard with the governments of other countries as some of them get really upset (see Turkey, China, Russia, and others). Trump brought out the worst in other world leaders.
Rats, I haven’t used the BR drive in the big machine for months. If I can get it powered up, I need to check it, but not until I’ve updated the Win boot and the Linux boot.
I do mine more often because my friend who cleans the house for me uses a vacuum in the room and the exhaust kicks up dust from the rug as she goes in search of any spiders that might be lurking in the area. She really hates spiders, but she’s a good, long-term friend so I don’t ask about the reason.
Most of what we’re doing is cosmetic as result of a local busy-body who wants everyone to conform to her concept of a community.
