Clever Corvids
The BBC has an interesting report on a couple of studies that show that rooks are smarter than you would assume. They use tools and understand the displacement of liquids.
They are probably working with squirrels, so watch your back.

I KNEW it! Damned squirrels are planning our demise and the crows are doing lookout!
/digs bunker deeper…
.-= last blog ..Something to celebrate =-.
They probably do all of the staff work including intel for the squirrels.
…I’m not so much worried about the squirrels as I am that one of these days the crows are going to get together with their cousins the Clark’s Nutcrackers and Gray Jays (a.k.a. “camp robbers out here in the intermountain West) and start mugging us for our Igloo Playmate lunch coolers out in the woods instead of just stealing sack lunches out of backpacks left in pickup beds. This “rocks as tools” thing doesn’t bode well, I’m afraid…
If they start making off with “Crackberries”, well know we’re in trouble.
The mockingbirds are the bane of existence for the feral cats, and people, around here. They attack if you walk under their nest. The gulls just crap on you.
Tool use is definitely not a good thing, especially since they seem to be selective on size.
