Griswold

So Digby has a revelation in Packaging that Charles Pierce might be on to something in his “Part The Third”.

I’ve been telling people it was Griswold since 2006, but they don’t listen. I grew up with these people and live among them. They really aren’t that hard to figure out. They have a severe level of sexual hang-ups which is why porn sells so well, prostitution flourishes, and divorce is epidemic. They never learned how to deal with it, as they were taught it was the road to hell.

Actually, Griswold has been the concern of people “in the trade” for longer than you might imagine. And the target of anti-choice zealots has been, not abortion per se, but privacy, and yes, we’ve known that, too. My first inkling that the theocrats were targeting not just abortion but contraception (and indeed privacy in general) came to me about 15 years ago from a musician colleague, a serious hardcore radical Catholic, who even had some sort of note on the bathroom door in his house informing the occupant how to latch it to protect “your dubiously constitutionally derived right of privacy.” IOW, he was convinced there is no such right.

Crazy? yes. Dangerous? yes. Ignore these people at your personal peril.

Steve, that was the oldest post I could find on this site. I’ve been saying it forever, because Griswold is the linchpin for so many other decisions, that altering it would push us back to the “good old days” of the Republican theocracy of the 1950s when moral purity was necessary to defeat the godless Communists.

Most people don’t understand that the studio was fined for leaving the line “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn!” in the released version of GWTW.

The Taliban have nothing on the Republican Congress under Eisenhower.
