Susie Madrak has a collection of one-liners that answer the question: How bad is it?
I really liked: “The economy is so bad that if the bank returns your check marked ‘Insufficient Funds,’ you call them and ask if they meant you or them.”
The Norwegians told a joke today that no one seems to understand, including me, and I understand German jokes about Friesians [the people, not the horses]. I don’t approve of Friesian jokes, but I understand them.
Update: I may not understand the Norwegians, but I do understand John McKay at archy.

friesians: i soooo want one. i have 6 black cats and a [not-quite] big black dog, now all i need is the matching horse.
and when i’m not riding, i can sooo see myself driving driving a matched team of them.

They are a very good, general horse breed, like a Morgan, and they always look impressive because the mane and tails are never clipped. They adapt easily between saddle and harness, so you can’t go wrong… if you have the money, alas.
Finally, someone understands me!
I loved it, John. I didn’t quote it because I want people to absorb the ambiance.
LOL @ John! 😆
Yeah… We had news coverage yesterday about the Peace Prize thing. I was laughing because Obama seemed genuinely bemused and uneasy about receiving the award, and even his supporters were doing the ‘WTF?’ thing. 😆 I personally think it was a bribe and a warning from the Europeans. 😉 Or… they simply didn’t have anyone else and went with the ironic choice!
But it did serve to highlight the huge difference between Dem voters and Repugs. Most of the Dem’s that were interviewed were very cautious and uncertain about the award. Bush supporters would have been partying like there was no tomorrow and truly believed he deserved it even if there were witnesses that he ate baby’s (not that I’m saying he does… just sayin!)
And yes, Bryan… pimpin for your friend worked! I’ll have to visit Archy regularly now! 😛 😉 😆
Great one liner John, really! 😀
Oh… PS John… I think your comments in your blog titled ‘Unexpected consequences’ about health care are spot on of course. For whatever that’s worth… 😉 🙂
John has frozen in Alaska, is a mammoth fanatic [he’s writing a book], and knows what l’esprit d’escalier means, so he’s worth checking on as you peruse the ‘tubes.
Ouch! That would be bad if the bank couldn’t pay off one’s check.

The reality is that about 3 banks a week are being taken over by FDIC, so it is not out of the question.
