Movement: West [270°] near 9 mph [15 kph].
Maximum sustained winds: 35 mph [ 55 kph].
Wind Gusts: 50 mph [ 80 kph].
Minimum central pressure: 1007 mb ↓.

Currently about 100 miles [ 160 km] Southwest of Key West, Florida.

The storm is in the Florida Straits headed into the Gulf of Mexico on its way to me at the end of the week.

Movement: West-Northwest [285°] near 10 mph [17 kph].
Maximum sustained winds: 35 mph [ 55 kph].
Wind Gusts: 45 mph [ 70 kph].
Minimum central pressure: 1010 mb.

Currently about 285 miles [ 460 km] Southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

A tropical storm warning may be necessary later today for the Carolina coast.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the coast of North Carolina from Cape Lookout to Oregon Inlet.

Hurricane Gaston – Day 7

Hurricane GastonPosition: 30.6N 55.2W [10PM CDT 0300 UTC].
Movement: Stationary.
Maximum sustained winds: 120 mph [195 kph].
Wind Gusts: 135 mph [215 kph].
Tropical Storm Wind Radius: 140 miles [220 km].
Hurricane Wind Radius: 35 miles [ 55 km].
Minimum central pressure: 957 mb ↓.

Currently about 575 miles [ 930 km] East of Bermuda.

The storm is stronger this morning and moving slower. At 10AM CDT became a Cat 2 storm. At 4PM CDT Gaston became a Cat 3, the first major hurricane of the season.
